TAG Heuer Watches & Wonders 2023 Releases

Of all the brand’s we visited at Watches & Wonders this year, TAG Heuer had the highest number of new releases for us to enjoy. Since the year marks the 60th anniversary of the TAG Heuer Carrera, there are several new additions to this line including a stunning duo of TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph “Glassbox” watches and a rare Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon. Alongside this, the TAG Heuer Watches & Wonders 2023 collection includes a unique range of bi-coloured Aquaracer watches and their latest Formula 1 Gulf Special Edition. Let’s take a look at all these and more…

TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph “Glassbox” Watches

As mentioned in the introduction, 2023 marks the 60th anniversary of the TAG Heuer Carrera collection and so as part of the TAG Heuer Watches & Wonders 2023 showcase, we’re inundated with a wide selection of new Carrera designs. Two of our personal favourites are the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph “Glassbox” watches which hark back to the Carrera’s origins and revive the look of the domed acrylic crystal used on the original designs from the 1960’s. The 39mm stainless steel cases are topped by deeply domed sapphire crystal glass which falls over the sides of the case, creating a really unique, vintage finish. The bezel-less look also means the tachymeter scale is moved to the edge of the dial, available with a blue sunray finish with matching blue counters or black with gorgeous “panda” style counters. The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph “Glassbox” watches also debut a new version of the brand’s in-house Heuer 02 automatic winding chronograph movement now with a bi-directional winding system for an improved 80 hour power reserve. We’ve already reviewed these two watches in more detail here if you’re interested.

TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 42mm Watches

On a more contemporary path, TAG Heuer continues to celebrate the anniversary of the Carrera with another duo of TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph watches. These are more modern in their execution, sticking to conventional bevelled sapphire crystal glass and larger 42mm stainless steel cases. They beautifully convey the motorsport heritage of the Carrera with classic features like angular lugs, piston-style chronograph pushers and two colourful dials with the tachymeter placed on an angled flange. You can choose from a TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 42mm watch with a dark blue or black dial, both with bright orange gradient tracks and chronograph hands to recall the look of classic race car speedometers. The chronograph counters are beautifully snailed while the hour and minute hands ensure easy legibility with Superluminova. Both designs are powered by the Heuer 02 movement with an 80-hour power reserve and secure to the wrist by a calfskin leather strap in their corresponding dial colour.

TAG Heuer Carrera Date 36mm Watches

Next up in TAG Heuer Watches & Wonders 2023 collection is a range of TAG Heuer Carrera Date 36mm watches with brightly coloured dials. As many of our readers will already know, bold and exciting dial colours are all the rage right now and TAG Heuer have certainly put their own stamp on the trend with this range of colourful unisex watches. The 36mm stainless steel Carrera case is now joined by displays in hot pink, pastel green, navy blue and warm silver, the former pink model utilising a snailed finish and rhodium plated hardware while the other three models elect a sunray brushed finish and gold-coloured hands and markers. A nice addition is the raised minutes track on the dial’s outskirts, coloured to match the dials. The TAG Heuer Carrera Date 36mm watches also boast Superluminova inserts on the hands and indices and a date window at 6 o’clock, powered by the Calibre 5 automatic winding movement with a 38 hour power reserve.

TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon Watch

The last piece joining the TAG Heuer Watches & Wonders 2023 showcase in celebration of the Carrera’s birthday is a design of haute horlogerie: the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon. The iconic Carrera architecture is paired with a breathtaking blue display set with a dizzying tourbillon complication at 6 o’clock. The regulator dances to the beat of the TH20-09 calibre, a Swiss made, chronometer certified automatic winding movement with a 65 hour power reserve. It also delivers three central hands for the hours, minutes and chronograph seconds and two snailed counters for the 30 minutes and 12 hours. Like the Carrera Chronograph “Glassbox” watches above, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon watch utilises the unique glassbox, ultra-curved sapphire crystal glass which skims over into the edges of the case. The case itself is crafted from stainless steel at 42mm wide and is worn on a blue calfskin leather strap.

TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Bi-Colour Watches

Our first release outside the Carrera collection is this range of TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Bi-Colour watches. These bold diving instruments maintain all the elements of the Professional 200 series from last year but add in stainless steel cases with 18ct yellow gold or 5N rose gold unidirectional bezels. There are four TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Bi-Colour watches, two in 40mm and two in 30mm with either a solid yellow gold or rose gold bezel insert and crown. The larger of the models are the most classic in their design, electing the famous grooved dials and trapezoid-shaped hour markers while the smaller lady’s watches have smoky displays and diamond dot indices. Powering the men’s TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Bi-Colour watches is the well-known Calibre 5 automatic winding movement for a 38 hour power reserve while the women’s references are fuelled by the Calibre 9 automatic movement with a 40 hour power reserve. We’ve already reviewed these watches in more detail here if you’re interested.

TAG Heuer Formula 1 X Gulf Special Edition Watch

Last but not least, the TAG Heuer Watches & Wonders 2023 showcase revealed a new special edition chronograph created in partnership between the Swiss watchmaker and Gulf. These two brands have created numerous watches together ever since their partnership began in 2007, combining the legendary colours of Gulf with the sporty architecture of the TAG Heuer Formula 1 watch. The new 2023 TAG Heuer Formula 1 X Gulf Special Edition is no different, adding the emblematic blue and orange Gulf livery to the dial in horizontal striping. The collaboration is also celebrated on the case back, featuring a special engraving of the Gulf logo. The case itself measures to 42mm wide and is engineered from fine-brushed stainless steel with a screw in crown, robust three-link bracelet and a 200 metre water resistant rating. Powering the TAG Heuer Formula 1 X Gulf watch is traditional Swiss quartz calibre for hours, minutes, small seconds and chronograph function.
