Maurice Lacroix Pontos S Diver Watch Review

For the last few years, Maurice Lacroix has focused almost entirely on their popular Aikon series, and for good reason, elevating the range of integrated luxury sports watches in new colours and sizes. For their latest release, however, Maurice Lacroix turns to their Pontos collection. These watches vary in style, offering both tasteful and sophisticated models perfect for sliding under a shirt cuff alongside compressor-style dive watches for a more casual look. The latter is known as the Maurice Lacroix Pontos S Diver and was originally launched in 2013. Ten years later and the design is reinvented with a set of handsome upgrades. Let’s take a look…

The new Maurice Lacroix Pontos S Diver is the kind of timepiece you’d reach for when you still want to look put together but a little more on the casual side. They’re comfortable and stylish but still uphold an impressive list of specifications. The original 2013 models measured to 43mm in diameter and offered 600 metre water resistant ratings thanks to a helium release valve incorporated into the case. The new 2023 Maurice Lacroix Pontos S Diver watches on the other hand are a little more versatile and affordable, offering 42mm cases with no helium escape valve and 300 metre water resistant ratings.

There are currently three Maurice Lacroix Pontos S Diver watches to choose from, two in stainless steel and one limited edition of 500 pieces in bronze. They all measure to 42mm in diameter and 13mm tall and come with the familiar twin crowns at 2 and 3 o’clock. The first is used to manipulate the internal rotating bezel which with its 60 minute scale allows you to measure elapsed dive times. The second is your standard winding crown for fueling the movement. The 2 o’clock crown operating the bezel features a coloured ring to match the colourway of its reference while the 3 o’clock crown is left bare, engineered from the same metal as the case.

The stainless steel Maurice Lacroix Pontos S Diver watches have brushed and polished surfaces while the limited edition bronze model is entirely brushed and will, as with all bronze watches, develop its own unique patina over time. All models have a screw down case back with an engraving of the Maurice Lacroix’s ‘M’ logo, polished lug chamfers, and sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective coating. The cases secure to the wrist by a range of rubber straps equipped with quick-release spring bars so you can easily swap out the rubber bands for one of leather of textile for a totally different look.

While the case of the Maurice Lacroix Pontos S Diver is wholly sporty and technical, the dial nicely balances between dive and dress style. There’s plenty of lume for easy readability, a subtle integrated date window at 6 o’clock and space for the expansive internal rotating bezel around its circumference. Stainless steel model PT6248-SS00L-330-J comes with a black display with white and orange accents while the other stainless steel reference PT6248-SS00L-130-4 elects a very nautical white dial with blue accents. Both of these models match their cases with silvered hardware for the hours, minutes, seconds and hour markers. The limited edition Maurice Lacroix Pontos S Diver Bronze watch under reference PT6248-BRZ0B-430-4 follows suit, matching its case with bronze hands and indices set upon a deep navy grained display.

Powering the Maurice Lacroix Pontos S Diver watches is the automatic winding ML115 calibre, the very same movement used to drive the original 2013 models. It is based on the Sellita SW200-1 and provides hours, minutes and seconds function and a date window at 6 o’clock. We’re also promised a frequency of 28,800vph, a total of 26 jewels and a power reserve of 38 hours. As mentioned, the movement is kept hidden behind a screwed down stainless steel case back.
