You’ll typically find Swiss watchmaker Bell & Ross somewhere between the sky and the sea. Their sporty diver’s watches provide optimal functionality for underwater exploration while their long-established aviation heritage has secured them as one of the world’s leading pilot’s watch manufacturers. Their Bell & Ross BR 05 watch collection, however, meets in the middle, delivering sophisticated integrated architecture for urban explorations. The new Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Green Steel watch celebrates having both feet firmly on the ground with a new nature-inspired green sunray display.
Since its launch in 2019, the Bell & Ross BR 05 collection has gone from strength to strength. With what started as a series of classic three-hand steel models has now expanded into a range of chronographs, skeletonised limited editions, 18ct gold models and GMT watches. It was just recently too that the Bell & Ross BR 05 was employed for the first time as part of the brand’s partnership with the Alpine A1 racing team with the launch of the Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Alpine A523 Limited Edition. For a more classic look, the Swiss watchmaker is now combining the BR 05’s streamline case and integrated bracelet with a fresh green dial.
The new green dial of the Bell & Ross BR 05 Green Steel watch is – quite literally – a breath of fresh air. The metallic green hue has never been placed on a BR 05 watch before with a steel case, previously only appearing on the more opulent BR 05 Gold. The glossy green sunray centre pairs beautifully with the polished accents of the square-shaped case and the choice of a green ribbed rubber strap or integrated steel bracelet. The dial is joined by two matching green subsidiary counters at 3 and 9 o’clock for the small seconds and chronograph minutes, each with snailed decoration and recessed silver tracks for easy legibility. The rest of the Bell & Ross BR 05 Green Steel watch’s dial follows suit providing clear readability with two large silver numerals for the 12 and 6 o’clock markers, stick indexes and thick baton hands, all with glow in the dark Superluminova inserts.
The case of the Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Green Steel watch presents us with all the familiar specs we’ve come to know and love from the BR 05 series. There’s the signature “circle within a square” layout, a fixed stainless steel bezel with four screws at each corner and flat sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment. The case measures in at 42 millimetres wide and 14.25 millimetres tall and secures a 100 metre water resistant rating thanks to a screw in crown at 3 o’clock which sits between two flat integrated chronograph pushers.
Like the front of the watch, the Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Green Steel model greets us with a layer of sapphire crystal glass on the back. Through it, you can see the BR-CAL.301 automatic winding calibre, a Swiss movement based on the automatic modular chronograph calibre ETA 2894-2. The movement provides hours, minutes, central chronograph seconds, small seconds, a 30 minutes counter and date alongside 27 jewels, a frequency of 28,800vph and a 42 hour power reserve.
