Bell & Ross BR 05 Green Gold Watch Review

We’re here for the current trend of colourful watch dials and it seems Bell & Ross are too. The famous “circle-within-a-square” luxury watchmaker has launched a new solid gold edition of their BR 05 watch for Watches & Wonders 2023, one with a gorgeous, forest-green dial. Let’s take a look at the new Bell & Ross BR 05 Green Gold watch in more detail…

It’s safe to say that Bell & Ross are not afraid to experiment with colour. Since the Bell & Ross BR 05 watch collection was launched back in 2019, the series has invited a range of handsome three-handed designs, chronographs, skeletonised models and GMT watches with varying dial colours. We’ve seen displays in silver, black and blue as well as a unique gold infused dial where the sapphire crystal glass itself is tinted gold. One of our personal favourites is also the BR 05 Copper Brown watch which combines the integrated architecture with a warm copper dial. The latest colour to join the collection is green in the new Bell & Ross BR 05 Green Gold watch.

Structurally, the Bell & Ross BR 05 Green Gold watch is the same as those before it. It boasts the familiar rounded square case in 18 carat rose gold with a 40mm diameter and 10.33mm height. On top, the fixed bezel is secured by four screws and is treated to brushed finishings and large polished bevels. At 3 o’clock, two crown guards protect the screw down crown which alongside the screw down exhibition case back allows for a 100 metre water resistant rating. Like past references, the Bell & Ross BR 05 Green Gold watch comes a choice of two straps, the first is an integrated 18 carat yellow gold bracelet with brushed and polished surfaces and a three fold clasp. The second more “affordable” option is a green alligator leather strap with a solid gold folding buckle.

The Bell & Ross BR 05 Green Gold watch’s novelty is its bottle green-coloured dial. Bell & Ross describes the colour as “the colour of trees – more precisely, that of the fir or spruce tree” and presents it with a sunburst finishfor a very subtle shimmer in certain lights. The dial is presented with the same set of large Arabic numerals, oblong indices and baton hands for showing the hours, minutes and seconds. All of this hardware is rose gold gilded and set with glow in the dark Superluminova inserts – other than the seconds hand which is left bare. The dial also presents a date window at 3 o’clock.

Powering the Bell & Ross BR 05 Green Gold watch is the BR-CAL.321 automatic winding movement, based on the tried-and-tested Sellita SW 300-1. The movement is visible through the rear sapphire crystal where you can admire the rose gold skeletonised rotor. The movement powers the hours, minutes, seconds and date function and provides a 42 hour power reserve and a frequency rate of 28,800vph.
