Hamilton Jazzmaster Performer Watch Collection Review

A go-to watch brand for good-looking, reliable and reasonably priced luxury timepieces is Hamilton. They have mastered the balance between quality and price across the majority of their collections, but none more so than their Hamilton Jazzmaster series. These are elegant, well-executed dress watches are deserving of everyday wear with several colourways, sizes and display types to choose from. Now, for a more dynamic and sportier look, the Swiss watch brand has added a new line of Hamilton Jazzmaster Performer Automatic watches into the mix. These include a range of 42mm chronographs and some 34mm and 38mm time-only models.

The Hamilton Jazzmaster Performer Chronograph 42mm Watches

The largest and most technically complicated design in the new collection is the Hamilton Jazzmaster Performer Chronograph 42mm watch. These no-nonsense chronographs skilfully teeter the line between sporty and elegant offering characteristics of the Jazzmaster watch including a polished round stainless steel case, elongated lugs and a oversized crown set beside two oblong-shaped pushers. The sporty vibes are provided by the fixed tachymeter scale and the chronograph complication on the dial which is available in blue, black or silver with matching counters but contrasting counter rings.

The case of the Hamilton Jazzmaster Performer Chronograph measures to 42mm wide and 15.2mm tall and offers a 100 meter water resistant rating and sapphire crystal glass for both the front and back of the watch. Through the latter, you can admire the automatic winding calibre H-31 movement with a cam-and-lever architecture and an anti-magnetic Nivachron balance spring. It delivers a frequency of 28,800vph and a power reserve of 60 hours. There are four different Hamilton Jazzmaster Performer Chronograph 42mm watches to choose from: reference H36616640 offers a blue sunray dial with a blue leather strap, reference H36606730 elects a black dial and a black leather strap, reference H36606130 nominates a black dial and a steel bracelet and reference H36626710 chooses a rose gold PVD case with a silver dial and black leather strap.

The Hamilton Jazzmaster Performer Automatic 38mm Watches

Alongside the Jazzmaster Performer Chronograph watches, the Swiss watchmaker has launched several time-only variants in two case sizes. The largest is the Hamilton Jazzmaster Performer Automatic 38mm which for us is the perfect size for a watch of this style. It offers much of the same specification as its chronograph including round stainless steel cases, sapphire crystal glass on the front and back and 100 metre water resistant ratings. The cases are obviously slightly smaller, at 38mm in diameter and 11.47mm tall and showcase a fixed bezel without a tachymeter scale. Instead, the bezels are adorned with traditional 60 minute scales.

Powering the Hamilton Jazzmaster Performer Automatic 38mm watches is the thin H-10 automatic winding calibre which explains the slimmer case. This is Hamilton’s version of Swatch’s Powermatic 80 movement so you can expect a weekend-proof 80 hour power reserve and further anti-magnetism thanks to a Nivachron balance spring. There are three Hamilton Jazzmaster Performer Automatic 38mm watches to choose from: reference H36215640 comes with a blue sunray dial and blue leather strap, reference H36205130 elects a black dial and steel bracelet and reference H36225770 opts for a gold-plated case, silver dial and black leather band.

The Hamilton Jazzmaster Performer Automatic 34mm Watches

Finally, for those that like the look of the time-only models but want a smaller case size, you have four Hamilton Jazzmaster Performer Automatic 34mm watches to choose from. Case specifications are exactly what you’d expect; the cases are engineered from stainless steel with fixed 60-minute bezels, 34mm diameters and a height of 11.18mm. There’s sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment on the front, an exhibition case back, 100 metre water resistant ratings and the H-10 automatic winding movement at its core. The movement still impresses with an 80-hour power reserve and high levels of anti-magnetism.

The Hamilton Jazzmaster Performer Automatic 34mm watches come in a variety of styles that make them nicely unisex. Reference H36125890 is the most feminine of the lot offering a white mother of pearl dial, rose gold-plated bezel and a satin, beige-coloured strap. There is then more classic models like reference H36135130 with a black dial and steel bracelet, reference H36115640 with a navy blue dial and blue leather strap and reference H36105140 with a slightly lighter blue dial and a metal bracelet.
