Parmigiani Fleurier adds to their line of luxury sports watches, the Tonda PF, with a new trio of designs with a smaller-than-ever case size. The Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF 36 watches retain the integrated architecture and deliberate minimalism as their predecessors but with a reduced diameter of 36mm and dial options dressed in baguette-cut diamonds.
Located in the heart of the Swiss Jura Mountains, luxury watch manufacturer Parmigiani Fleurier has established an assertive identity characterised by pure aesthetics and advanced technical know-how. Embodying this exactly is their Tonda PF collection, a direct descendant of the less streamlined Tonda family. The line was launched during the summer of 2021, celebrating the brand’s 25th anniversary. It welcomed tear-drop shaped lugs, slender bezels, clean guilloche dials and a variety of ground-breaking complications including a Tonda PF Chronograph, a Tonda PF Micro-Rotor and a Tonda PF Annual Calendar. More recently, we also applauded a remarkable Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante and a Tonda PF Skeleton watch. While the collection clearly grows, until now, the cases of these designs had remained within the 40 and 42mm mark. Now for the first time, the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Automatic watch is delivered in a very wearable 36mm case.
Yes, they’re smaller in size and deliver models dressed in diamonds, but this does certainly not mean the new Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF 36 watches are only for women. Quite the opposite in fact. These are beautiful mid-size watches that look just as handsome on men’s wrists as they do on a woman’s. They are actually perfect timepieces for those looking to match with their other half. The 36mm cases retain all the familiar elements of previous Tonda PF models with knurled platinum or rose gold bezels, integrated tear-drop shaped lugs and gorgeous integrated bracelets. Two of the cases are engineered from stainless steel while a third, a significantly more expensive design, is crafted from opulent 18 carat rose gold.
The new 36mm diameter is paired with a remarkably slim 8.6mm thickness, allowing each Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF 36 watch to effortlessly slide beneath the cuff of a shirt. The exterior surface of the case is polished, including the lugs and the knurled crown at 3 o’clock, while the brushed central links of the bracelet and the case flanks provide a slightly more matte effect with their brushed finishing. The cases come completed by scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment, a 100 metre water resistant rating and an exhibition case back.
There are three dials elected for the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF 36 watch. The stainless steel case is paired with a Silver Sand or Warm Grey display. Pairing with the warmth of the 18 carat rose gold case is an equally vibrant Deep Ruby dial. Like before, the dials are decorated with an elegant grain d’orge or barleycorn hand-guilloché pattern, an openwork Parmigiani Fleurier logo, matching skeletonised delta-shaped hands for the hours and minutes and a white printed minutes scale. For the applied indexes, the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF 36 Silver Sand watch elects faceted metal markers while the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF 36 Warm Grey and Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF 36 Deep Ruby watches debut stunning baguette cut diamonds. The diamonds total to 0.36 carats.
Another novelty of the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF 36 watches is the movement, which has been developed entirely from scratch by the Swiss Maison to fit into the new 36mm case. Calibre PF770 is a 179-part, in-house, automatic winding movement with a 60 hour power reserve, a frequency of 28,800vph and a total of 29 jewels. You can admire the intricate construction of the Swiss made calibre through the case back including elements like the Côtes de Genève bridges, the bevelled edges and the polished and sandblasted sections of the skeletonised gold rotor.
