Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Micro-Rotor Watch Review

During the Geneva Watch Days 2021 event, Swiss luxury watch brand Parmigiani Fleurier announced the release of their new Tonda PF collection. At home within the series was a duo chronographs, a pair of annual calendars and a limited edition split seconds chronograph. There was also a pair of simple but sophisticated two-hand designs named the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Micro-Rotor…

Parmigiani Fleurier are already well acquainted with the luxury sports watch genre, but the introduction of the Tonda PF collection has well and truly cemented them as experts. The designs are beautifully proportioned with stainless steel and 18 carat rose gold cases with thin profiles paired with thin movements and most importantly, integrated metal bracelets that perfectly blend with the sides of the case. Overall, we love the new collection and one of our favourite pieces within it is the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Micro-Rotor. Unlike its complication-filled counterparts, the design of the Micro-Rotor is effortlessly timeless with just a two-handed display and date window placed on a dark matte grey dial.

The dial of the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Micro-Rotor watch is one of those that becomes more incredible the longer you look at it. Its stunning matte finish is full of elegant details including a mesmerising hand guilloche pattern using a grain d’orge (barleycorn) motif. The decoration expands right out to the edge of the dial stopping only for a slender minutes ring finished in matte grey. Overlapping these two textures is faceted indexes for the hours finished in silver or gold to pair with the skeletonised hands for the hours and minutes and the ‘PF’ emblem at 12 o’clock.

As for the case, the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Micro-Rotor does the job of integration beautifully. The 40 millimetre diameter and 7.8 millimetre height is finished in a choice of stainless steel or 18 carat rose gold and features graceful tear-drop shaped lugs, a raised 950 platinum bezel with hand-knurled detailing and a rather imposing crown at 3 o’clock. Despite its extraordinary slimness on the wrist, the design still has a strong presence notably helped by the integrated bracelet with comes with a concealed folding clasp. The case is also water resistant to 100 metres and combines brushed surfaces and polished accents for an overall breathtaking execution.

Helping the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Micro-Rotor watch sit so slenderly on the wrist is the movement. Hard at work inside is the automatic winding micro-rotor calibre PF703, a movement that we’ve seen before in previous Parmigiani Tonda watches. The movement measures to only 3mm in height, an applause worthy size, and is equipped with a platinum oscillating weight for better winding stability. We also get a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, a 48 hour power reserve and a host of stunning decoration including nicely curved bridges, guilloche on the rotor, thin Geneva stripes and polished bevels.
