Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Chronograph Watch Review

We touched on the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF collection on our run down of Geneva Watch Days 2021 releases here and we’ve already reviewed the Tonda PF Annual Calendar duo, so what’s left for us to do but take a look at the two Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Chronograph watches? Also launched as part of the brand’s 25th anniversary, the stainless steel and rose gold guilloche-dialled chronographs introduce a whole host of fresh features to the manufacturer’s new range of luxury sports watches. Let’s take a look…

CASE

Across the entire Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF collection, the style of the cases are decisively refined and elegant with comfortable tear-drop shaped lugs, fluted two-step bezels and knurled crowns. The Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Chronographs follow suit but with the addition of integrated push pieces for controlling the chronograph complication and dimensions of 42 millimetres in diameter and 12.4 millimetres in thickness. The thickness of the case is one of the key features of the collection, sitting amazingly low and discrete on the wrist, especially in comparison to other pieces in the Tonda series like that of the Tonda GT. The cases of the chronographs are available in a choice of stainless steel or 18 carat rose gold and come equipped with anti-reflective sapphire crystal glass on both the front and case back and a water resistant rating of 100 metres.

DIAL

Further cementing their classy aesthetics, the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Chronograph watches come with breathtaking guilloche dials in a colour Parmigiani calls “Milano Blue”. It’s a stunning royal blue hue which contrasts beautifully against the option of silver or gold hardware. The “guilloché grain d’orge” finish extends out to the very edges of the dial stopping only for the subtly sloped minutes track, the darkened date window positioned between the 4 and 5 o’clock indexes and the snailed rings for the small seconds and chronograph counters. At the centre, the delta-shaped hands for the hours and minutes are skeletonised offering a nice level of depth and paired with a sleek chronograph seconds hand. At 12 o’clock, the new brand signature “PF” is added surrounded by an oval, double-framed applique.

MOVEMENT

Parmigiani Fleurier are renowned for the high-frequency in-house movements and as expected, the new Tonda PF Chronographs deliver the very same with the Caliber PF070. Automatic winding with a column wheel mechanism, the movement is beautifully thin, attesting for the thickness of the watch, at only 6.95mm and dressed in a range of traditional Swiss decorations and a rose gold oscillating rotor, all of which can be seen through the exhibition case back. The movement provides a power reserve of 65 hours, a frequency of 5Hz or 36,6000 vibrations per hour, and 42 jewels. It also ensures the smooth running of the hours, minutes, chronograph seconds, small seconds, 30 minutes, 12 hours and date complications.

STRAP

Like all the releases in the new Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF collection, the two chronograph models come fully prepped with integrated metal bracelets. The rose gold Tonda PF chronograph understandably comes with a matching solid gold bracelet and the stainless steel variant follows in form. Both are secured by a classic folding buckle signed off by the Parmigiani Fleurier emblem.
