Cuervo y Sobrinos announce a new edition of their Robust Churchill watch with a salmon guilloche dial inspired by the warmth and vibrance of Havana, the Cuban capital the luxury watch brand call home. The new Cuervo y Sobrinos Robusto Churchill Day Date is limited to just 30 pieces and has been launched exclusively with luxury watch and jewellery retailer C W Sellors Jura Watches.
Those unfamiliar with the Cuervo y Sobrinos Robusto Churchill collection owe it to themselves to explore its fine selection of timepieces. Most common within the series is the day date complication, as seen here in the new Cuervo y Sobrinos Robusto Churchill Day Date “Salmon Dial” watch but you can also find a couple of more complicated designs featuring a perpetual calendar GMT. Despite differing in their functionality, each design pays homage to British politician Winston Churchill who famously visited Havana and the Cuervo y Sobrinos boutique there on several occasions. Named after the short and “robust” Romeo y Julieta cigars smoked by Churchill, Cuervo y Sobrinos later launched their Robusto collection which now sees the introduction of a new salmon-faced limited edition.
CASE
The case of the new Cuervo y Sobrinos Robusto Churchill Day Date “Salmon Dial” watch sits perfectly in the middle of a large statement timepiece and a compact watch. It measures to 43 millimetres in diameter and sits at 12.45 millimetres in height with a three-part construction comprising of a central body, lateral sides and a screwed down see-through case back. The main body and case back are engineered from stainless steel while the sides offer lightness with a titanium construction. Each element offers a blend of different finishes including polished and satin-finished. Topping the case is a smooth unadorned bezel and a layer of scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass treated with a layer of anti-reflective coating. Like all of the pieces in Cuervo y Sobrinos Robusto collection, the new limited edition comes equipped with the iconic hinged level crown at 3 o’clock which allows you to wind and control the automatic winding movement within and provides a solid 100 metre water resistant rating.
DIAL
New to the Cuervo y Sobrinos Robusto Churchill Day Date Limited Edition is its salmon pink dial. Finished in traditional ‘Clous de Paris’ decoration and handcrafted from guilloche, the copper-coloured backdrop contrasts beautifully to the generously sized sword-shaped hour and minute hands for peerless readability. Around the circumference, the dial alternatives between Arabic numerals and dart-shaped batons paired with a black printed minutes track. At 6 o’clock, two apertures display the date and day in matching salmon pink and outlined in black.
MOVEMENT
Despite their resolutely Cuban heritage, Cuervo y Sobrinos watches are still designed and engineered in Switzerland and as such, the movement within the new Cuervo y Sobrinos Robusto Churchill Day Date “Salmon Dial” watch is equipped with a Swiss made movement. The Calibre 2810.1S ensures the smooth running of the hours, minutes, seconds, day and date function while also providing a solid frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and a power reserve of 44 hours. You can admire many of the elements of the movement through the sapphire crystal case back including some of the 25 jewels and the engraved oscillating weight.
STRAP
Completing the Cuervo y Sobrinos Robusto Churchill Day Date Limited Edition is a choice of two straps. The first is a classic stainless steel and titanium bracelet achieved with both polished and satin-polished finishing. The second is a black Louisiana alligator strap. Both are secured to the wrist by a stainless steel folding buckle engraved with the CyS emblem.
