Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Skeleton Watch Review

Replacing the traditional guilloche dial of last year’s Tonda PF collection, Parmigiani Fleurier release their own skeletonised translation of the luxury sports watch with the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Skeleton. Launched as part of their 2022 Watches & Wonders showcase, the release is undeniably stunning and pairs with two case materials, stainless steel or 18ct rose gold.

At the end of summer last year, Parmigiani Fleurier celebrated their 25th anniversary with the launch of the Tonda PF watch collection. The series introduced a new identity for the brand, a collection of refined, thin and elegant luxury sports watches defined by their integrated bracelets, teardrop shaped lugs, openwork hands and clean guilloche dials. Within the series was a PF Tonda chronograph, a classic two-hander micro-rotor and a split seconds chronograph, all of which were reviewed in full on the Horologii website here. Now joining them is the new Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Skeleton watch, an entirely different take on the sports watch with a highly technical skeletonised centre.

Most luxury watch collectors have at least one skeletonised piece in their collections. They are always the models that are hard to say no to since they reveal with such precision and excellence the mechanical movements working hard inside them. There are manufacturer’s that do skeletonization better than others, and without thinking, Parmigiani Fleurier is one of them. Rather than simply removing the dial plate to reveal the movement beneath, the Swiss watch manufacturer has ensured the skeletonization is as balanced and beautiful as the rest of the design.

Through the openwork architecture at the centre, you can admire graphite-coloured bridges tinted as such for the NAC coating, an alloy of the platinum family, with both sandblasted and satin-polished finishings. In contrast, the PF logo at 12 o’clock, skeletonised delta-shaped hands and applied indexes are finished in rose gold. The movement on display within both Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Skeleton watches is the Calibre PF777 automatic winding movement. The movement has been designed completely in-house and comprises of 187 components, 29 of which are jewels. We’re also guaranteed a power reserve of 60 hours and a frequency rate of 28,800vph.

Turning the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Skeleton over and you can admire a different angle of the automatic winding movement through the sapphire crystal case back. Here you’ll witness a skeletonised 22 carat gold rotor which spins with every movement of the wrist. Protecting the Swiss made movement is a familiar case seen on previous Tonda PF references. Available in stainless steel or 18 carat rose gold, the case sits on the wrist at 40mm in diameter and 8.5mm in height offering polished and satin-finished finishings, a knurled fixed bezel, screw in crown and 100 metre water resistance. Each model is also fitted with an integrated bracelet engineered from its respective case material.

The Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Skeleton watches are not limited editions but part of the permanent collection.
