U-Boat Phoenix and Capsule Limited Editions: Basel 2015 releases!

U-Boat has unveiled its pièce de résistance – the new Capsule. This latest creation takes inspiration from the first undersea exploration modules and in particular the pressure gauges produced in the 1930’s. Designer Italo Fontana completed the design with a vision in mind. Using distinctive features such as the spherical shaped porthole windows made from pressure resistant glass and the heavy-built structural designs of the capsule itself, the curvature of the grade 5 titanium case imitates that of the exhibition windows of the cabin – a truly spectacular take on underwateru-boat 1 exploration. The U-Boat capsule has been assembled in a familiar way to that of the underwater robot, sharing the concept of clamping the glass to the watch case using a system of external fixing levers to ensure maximum resistance to water pressure. One chief clamp, positioned at the 3 o’clock position presses the domed glass in tightly with the help of special safety screws. A key facet making this timepiece a true and exquisite illustration of skilled and expert craftsmanship, is the fact that the U-Boat Capsule is made of just two pieces and does not require any disassembly of watch parts during the opening and removing of the glass. The face of the watch shows a 3 level dial encased by Hesalite glass. The SuperLuminova filled hands and indices are a velvety chocolate brown, a perfect distinguisher between either options of the black or vintage cream face. The date window positioned at the 9 o’clock location is also luminous.  The dimensions of the watch (50mm wide and 23.5mm thick) interpret a sense of bulkiness, characteristic of the U-Boat trademark. The watch is power-driven by the in-house U-28 movement. Said calibre is similar to rival luxury watch movements such as the TAG Heuer Calibre 1887 and the Ball watch Calibre 2050 however, this entirely elite movement is modified and personalised to U-Boat specifications. The Capsule is beautifully executed with naturally u-boat 2aged leather that has been specially treated, laser engraved and completed with fully hand-worked waxed, cotton treated stitching.  The new U-Boat Capsule is exclusively designed, communicating their strong affection for underwater instruments that historically connects us back with lifesaving, scientific invention.

Secondly is the U-Boat Classico 48 Phoenix Limited Edition, one of the five “Ultra Rare” novelties made public by the Italian watch brand this week. Designed and developed on qualities of the Classico range by U-Boat’s master creator, the watch flaunts a stunning mother of pearl dial. U-Boat denote the epitome of unprecedented luxury by setting a single black diamond on the chrono pusher, matched by a collection of black diamonds set backwards on the inside of the bezel. The implementation of further admirable features would be the “Martellée” buckle itself, diamond filled at the fissures. Hosting the U-77 movement, the simplistic counters of the chronograph melt into the sumptuous pearly backdrop. An invaluable collector’s piece to be worn with confidence and pleasure. The striking 48mm Classico Sterling Silver case makes this not just a genius U-Boat timekeeping instrument but a piece of spectacular jewellery.
