Bremont Supersonic Limited Edition Watch Review

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic Concorde aeroplane, British watch manufacturer Bremont have released a stunning trio of Bremont Supersonic Limited Edition watches. These gorgeous timepieces have become the eighth historical limited edition release from the brand, this time to tribute the famous British Airways Concorde plane that took passengers eleven miles into the air and flew twice as fast as the speed of sound, completing more supersonic flying hours than the entire world’s air forces combined.

To put the Concorde’s speed into perspective, today’s commercial jets reach Mach 0.85 whereas the Concorde flew at Mach 2.0. The Concorde could fly from New York to London in three hours and 30 minutes compared to today’s commercial planes which take an average of nearly seven hours. There were over 2.5 million British Airways passengers that got the opportunity to experience the speed of this magnificent jet. To honour the Concorde, Bremont have dedicated a page on their website to the memories of the passengers who got to journey within it. You can read them here.

It isn’t just the story behind the Concorde or the impressive manual-winding movement that makes the Bremont Supersonic watches so incredible. It is also the unbelievable fact that each watch incorporates metal from the G-BOAB Concorde plane, also known as the Alpha Bravo. The G-BOAB Concorde was the third Concorde to join the British Airways fleet in 1974 and by working together with the airline, Bremont have been able to include aluminium taken from the plane and moulded it into a decorative ring that can be seen through the exhibition case back. The ring is also detailed with the aircraft’s number and registration, years of active service, top speed and the number of supersonic flights completed.

This isn’t the first time Bremont have taken parts of a historic plane and encapsulated it inside one of their timepieces. Their DH-88 watches and Bremont 1918 limited editions are just two examples of the brand’s dedication to honouring the aviation world. Nevertheless, the Bremont Supersonic watches are still unique to anything ever released by Bremont before. The trio of limited editions are the first watches by Bremont to house a manual-winding movement, the modified calibre BE-11M to be exact. This stunning movement boasts an 8 day power reserve which means you can leave the watch unworn for a week and it will still remain on time and fully functioning when you return to it.

Deliberately styled to the 1970’s, the era when the G-BOAB Concorde first took to the skies, the Bremont Supersonic Limited Edition watches showcase silver sunburst dials inspired by the reflective paint used on the planes, blue accents to denote the British Airways logo and a stunning plane silhouette machined into the movement’s customised base plate. Each Bremont Supersonic watch measures to 43mm in diameter and comes in a choice of three case materials: stainless steel, white gold and rose gold. Each version has a slightly different dial design too with the steel boasting blue hands, white gold having nickel hands and the rose gold having matching rose gold hands.

The Bremont Supersonic Limited Edition watches are perfectly equipped with a hour and minute hands, a small seconds dial at 6 o clock, a date aperture and a powerful 8 day power reserve indicator at 12 o clock. Each of these impressive functions are housed beneath anti-reflective and scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass which also helps to ensure the watch’s 100 metre water resistance.

Each Bremont Supersonic watch also comes with unique packaging which is just as beautiful as the watch itself. The packaging allows you to house each limited edition into the head of your very own Concorde plane. The prices and limited edition values are different with each model. The steel is limited to 300 pieces and retails at an amazing £9,495 while the white and rose gold are both limited to only 100 pieces, the white gold retailing at £17,995 and the rose gold at a slightly more affordable £16,995.
