Hands-on with the Breitling Chronomat B01 Six Nations Limited Edition Watches

With the Six Nations Rugby Championship just days away, Official Timing Partner Breitling launches a collection of six limited edition Chronomat watches dressed in the logos and liveries of the six countries competing. The Breitling Chronomat B01 Six Nations watches are limited to 150 pieces each and are individually dedicated to England, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, France and Italy.

It was this time last year, just before the start of the 2022 Six Nations Championship, that Breitling announced a three-year partnership with Six Nations Rugby. The collaboration sees the Swiss luxury watch brand became the Official Timing Partner of the Guinness Six Nations, the Women’s Six Nations, the Autumn Nations Series, and the 2023 RWC warm-up matches. As part of the partnership, Breitling have also formed the Breitling Rugby Squad which consists of Kyle Sinckler for England, Hamish Watson for Scotland, George North for Wales, Conor Murray for Ireland; former players France’s Vincent Clerc and Italy’s Martín Castrogiovanni; and former Welsh international rugby union captain and presenter Sam Warburton.

“The partnership between Breitling and Six Nations Rugby is a hugely exciting moment for everyone involved,” says Six Nations Rugby CEO Ben Morel. “It is a partnership of firsts; an Official Timing Partner supporting the women’s game and a progressive new partnership, spanning all Six Nations Rugby annual competitions. As such, a huge amount of credit goes to the unions for creating these championship opportunities, and to Breitling for bringing their enthusiasm to all aspects of this partnership.”

The Case

Before we get into the bold and exciting dial colours debuting on the new Breitling Chronomat B01 Six Nations Limited Edition watches, let’s first take a look at the main exterior. The cases of the 150-piece limited editions follow in the footsteps of the Breitling Chronomat B01 42 watches launched back in 2020 which tributes the historic Breitling Frecce Tricolori chronograph launched in 1983 with its iconic interchangeable rider tabs. This unique technology applies to the new Breitling Chronomat B01 Six Nations watches too which present strong stainless steel unidirectional bezels equipped with interchangeable tabs at the 15 and 45 positions. This means you can choose whether you want to use your timepiece to count up or down.

The rest of the case is also engineered from stainless steel including the screw in domed onion-shaped crown and chronograph pushers, both allowing for a 200 metre water resistant rating. There’s also sapphire crystal glass on both the front and back of each Breitling Chronomat B01 Six Nations watch with the topside convex and adorned in anti-reflective coating. The dimensions for the limited editions are 42mm for the diameter, 15.1mm for thickness and a height of 50.5mm. There’s also a lug width of 22mm and a total approximate weight of 200 grams.

The Dial(s)

The real novelty of the Breitling Chronomat B01 Six Nations Limited Edition watches is the dial which has been beautifully coloured in the liveries and logos of its nominated team. The Breitling Chronomat B01 Six Nations England watch presents the tri-compax chronograph dial is a crisp white colour with bright red chronograph hands to match with the red of the English Rose logo placed upon the small seconds dial at 3 o’clock. The team’s emblem is also decorated on the case back. This premise is applied to all six of the Breitling Chronomat B01 Six Nations watches: the Breitling Six Nations Scotland watch elects a dark blue display with lighter blue accents, the Breitling Six Nations Ireland watch is fully adorned in a deep forest green, the Breitling Six Nations Wales watch boasts a dark burgundy dial with green chronograph hands, the Breitling Six Nations France watch nominates a dark blue backdrop with red accents and the Breitling Six Nations Italy watch comes with a sky blue dial with red chronograph hands.

The rest of the dial maintains the characteristics of previous Chronomat B01 Chronograph watches with a tri-compax display with the small seconds at 9 o’clock, the 30 minutes at 3 o’clock and the 12 hour totaliser at 6 o’clock. The subsidiary dials are silvered in all editions other than the Breitling Chronomat B01 Six Nations Wales watch which instead pairs its dark red dial with black counters. Across the collection, there’s the familiar applied indexes and sleek hands adorned with Superluminova inserts and an integrated date window at 6 o’clock.

The Movement

Powering the Breitling Chronomat B01 Six Nations Limited Edition watches is the Breitling Manufacture Calibre B01 which has been developed entirely in-house by the Swiss watch brand and chronometer certified for optimal precision. It comes with an impressive 70 hour power reserve, 47 jewels and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. As mentioned, you can admire the movement including its Cotes de Geneva decorated oscillating rotor through the exhibition case back.

The Strap

Completing each Breitling Chronomat B01 Six Nations watch is the famous Rouleaux bracelet in stainless steel. It preserves the vintage rife-shell style links that seamlessly blend out of the case and lugs. The strap closes by a classic folding buckle engraved with the Breitling logo.
