Seiko Prospex Samurai SRPD03K1 Limited Edition Watch Review

For those avid watch collectors out there, the news of the Seiko Prospex Samurai SRPD03K1 Limited Edition watch release was certainly one of surprise and pure excitement. It’s not only the gorgeous orange and grey design of the limited edition that has everyone talking, but also the news that the Samurai SRPD03K1 is the first Seiko watch in history to be available exclusively in Europe!

As one of the most successful and highly coveted watch brands in Japan, Seiko has consequently focused its attention on home turf. Because of this, the majority of their models have only been available through the Japanese Domestic Market making it impossible for European retailers to get their hands on them. However, for the first time ever, Seiko have released a watch that is exclusive only in Europe, an early Christmas present for all us European Seiko fans!

The Seiko Prospex Samurai SRPD03K1 Limited Edition watch is part of the brand’s new Dawn Grey Series which boasts a design inspired by the colours of dawn rising over the ocean. The gorgeous combination of orange and grey is displayed beautifully on the 60-minute unidirectional divers bezel and several subtle accents on the dial. Both its special design and exclusive availability in Europe are the exact reasons why the Seiko Prospex Samurai SRPD03K1 sold out as quickly as it did.

Originally launched in 2004 followed by a rebirth in 2016 with the SRPB09K1 Blue Lagoon, the Seiko Samurai watch collection has always remained a favourite with collectors. Their contemporary take on a dive watch installed with an impressive in-house mechanical calibre and at an easily accessible price makes these watches a must have for any serious watch fanatic. The new Seiko Prospex Samurai SRPD03K1 Dawn Grey watch follows a very similar design to past models with a 43.8mm by 13.4mm stainless steel case, a unidirectional bezel, Hardlex crystal glass and a screw down case back.

What makes the Seiko Prospex Samurai SRPD03K1 different to any of its predecessors is its gorgeous Dawn Grey aesthetic of orange and grey. The face of the dial is breathtaking up close with a detailed hobnail effect decorated with large white hour and minute marks and a sleek orange tipped seconds hand. The 4R35 automatic winding calibre is kept hidden behind the closed case back and equips the watch with standard hour, minute and seconds function as well as a handy date window at 3 o clock. The in-house 4R35 caliber also impresses with a 41 hour power reserve, 23 jewels and 21,600 vibrations per hour, not a bad combination for a retail price of only £410!

Unless you were quick off the mark, you will have struggled to get your hands on the Seiko Prospex Samurai SRPD03K1 Limited Edition. As soon as the release was publicised, the 2,018 pieces of the 200 metre water resistant limited edition quickly sold out. But don’t fret, there are still some other incredible Seiko Samurai watches still available to order. For more information on these and where to order one, click here.
