The new TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Titanium Solargraph instead elects a bold metallic look, one engineered entirely from uncoated titanium, for an even more durable and lightweight finish.
The Case
Last year’s TAG Heuer Aquaracer Solargraph watch was a brand-first for several reasons. Not only did it house their first ever solar-powered movement but the black coated stainless steel case was paired with an extraordinary carbon bezel insert infused with greenish blue luminous material. While beautiful for some, aficionados of more classic-looking timepieces gave it a pass. Now, those of that mindset can be satiated as the new TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Titanium Solargraph elects a timeless, uncoated titanium case with a handsome sandblasted finish.
The case of the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph 2023 watch measures to 40mm in diameter and is joined by a matching scratch resistant titanium bezel, one with unidirectional rotating functionality and a black engraved 60 minute scale. Unlike before, there is no luminous coating on this bezel. The case also features flat sapphire crystal glass with double anti-reflective treatment, a screwed down case back and a screw in crown at 3 o’clock water resistant to 200 metres.
The Dial
At first glance, the dial of the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Titanium Solargraph watch looks much like any other dial in the brand’s Aquaracer series. It is finished in black with a sunray brushed finish and horizontal grooving and yet unbeknownst to most, the dial is in fact partly translucent to allow the movement below it to recharge using light. No matter whether you’re outside in the scorching heat or simply beside the lamp in your living room, the dial of the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph watch will absorb it and use it to power the hours, minutes, seconds and date function.
Powered up during the day, the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Titanium Solargraph watch is also an essential tool during the night offering trapezoid-shaped hour markers and large sword-shaped hands coated in glow in the dark Superluminova. Like last year’s TAG Heuer Solargraph watch, the new 2023 edition also features a polar blue lacquered seconds hand to tribute the northern lights which illuminate the skies in the Arctic Circle. The lettering for ‘Solargraph’ is coloured in the same shade, sitting about the watch’s water resistant rating and below the iconic TAG Heuer logo.
The Movement
The same Calibre TH50-00 as before is used to power the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph 2023 watch. The movement was created in partnership with the Manufacture La Joux-Perret in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland and benefits from harnessing the entirety of its power from both natural and artificial light. There is no need to change the watch’s battery; it takes just two minutes of exposure to direct sunlight to power it for the entire day. Once fully charged, after less than 20 hours in the sun, the watch can run for up to six months with no light exposure. Should the movement stop ticking, it only needs exposing to any light source for ten seconds before it will kick in again.
The Strap
Completing the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Titanium Solargraph watch is a traditional metal bracelet with ergonomic links, and a double safety push-button folding clasp. The entire strap is engineered from sandblasted grade 2 titanium, just like the case, and the buckle is finalised by a comfort link extension.
