Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Split Seconds Chronograph Rose Gold Watch Review

Parmigiani Fleurier’s ground-breaking Rattrapante chronograph returns with a solid rose gold case and a crisp platinum tri-compax dial. The Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Split Seconds Chronograph Rose Gold watch is the epitome of indulgence and joins a plethora of other Tonda PF watches launched at this year’s Watches & Wonders 2023 event.

A couple of years ago, Swiss watchmaker Parmigiani Fleurier celebrated their 25th anniversary with the launch of the Tonda PF watch collection. The series boasted an elegant range of integrated luxury sports watches housing some of PF’s most emblematic manufacture movements. In the two years since, the collection has expanded to include several notable designs like the Tonda PF Micro Rotor and Tonda PF Annual Calendar as well as two world-firsts: the Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante and Tonda PF Minute Rattrapante. The inaugural line-up also introduced a 25-piece limited edition Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Split Seconds Chronograph watch fully dressed in platinum with a matching platinum dial. The GPHG-awarded, in-house calibre PF361 delivered an innovative split-seconds hand, which running underneath the conventional stopwatch hand, allowed for the ability to time multiple simultaneous events at once. Offering all this but swapping out the previous platinum case and bracelet for one of 18ct rose gold is the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Split Seconds Chronograph Rose Gold watch.

Perfectly balancing the line between sportiness and elegance, the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Split Seconds Chronograph Rose Gold watch once again confirms our obsession with PF’s luxury sports watches. Sheathed in 18ct rose gold, the case has a diameter of 42mm and a height of 15mm with a combination of hand-polished and hand-brushed finishings for a contemporary look. The iconic bezel sits on top with its knurled markings while the tear-drop shaped chronograph pushers and large knurled crown are brightly polished. You’ll notice the crown has its own pusher at the centre which is used to activate the split-seconds chronograph. The integrated bracelet is also engineered entirely from 18ct rose gold, offering its own polished accents on the external elements and brushed finishing on the central links. The Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Split Seconds Chronograph Rose Gold watch is water resistant to 100 metres and hosts scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass on both the front and back.

A huge draw for many of those infatuated with the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF collection is the understated dials that feature no luminous markings, elegant delta-shaped skeletonised hands and calming combinations of colours. The Tonda PF Split Seconds Chronograph Rose Gold watch is no different, boasting a dial made from sandblasted platinum with a matte, finely graduated finish and set with three matching recessed platinum subsidiary dials for the 30-minutes, running seconds and 12 hours. You’ll notice the chronograph functions are neatly distinguished by their rhodium-plated hands while the small seconds, central hour and minutes and Rattrapante hand are done in rose gold. The dial also presents a peripheral pulsometer scale with integrated applied rose gold hour markers and the PF logo in its oval cartouche at noon.

Fuelling the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Split Seconds Chronograph Rose Gold watch is the in-house calibre PF361 manual winding movement, otherwise known as one of the greatest chronograph movements on the market. It boasts a vertical clutch and balance held into place by a complex 18ct gold cross-through bridge alongside two column wheels, one for the traditional chronograph and a second for the split-seconds function. It performs at an outstanding rate of 36,600 vibrations per hour and hosts 25 jewels and a 65 hour power reserve. You can admire the beauty of the movement through the sapphire crystal case back of the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Split Seconds Chronograph Rose Gold watch including the lavish gold bridges with satin-finished surfaces, frosted mainplate and polished screw heads.

The new Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Split Seconds Chronograph Rose Gold watch is a true work of art but limited to only 25 pieces and retailing at £151,750, it’s not a watch you’ll see very often.
