In-depth Review of the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Porsche Edition

Following on from the hugely successful release of their Connected Calibre E4 smartwatch series, Swiss manufacturer TAG Heuer launches a new special edition wearable designed in collaboration with Porsche. The TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Porsche watch offers a striking frozen blue look inspired by the Taycan and advanced features purposely engineered for Porsche owners.

When TAG Heuer announced their new partnership with Porsche last year, it made everyone second guess whether it wasn’t already news. With TAG Heuer boasting their own collection named Carrera and Porsche labelling one of their most powerful machines the very same, the alliance between two of the most dynamic luxury names in the world made perfect sense. The first collaboration between the two was a Carrera Porsche Chronograph watch dressed in red, black and grey which was later followed up by a second Carrera Porsche Chronograph Special Edition decorated in bold accents of yellow. Now completing the spectrum of primary colours is the new TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Porsche watch which delivers a black and icy blue design mimicking the all-electric Porsche Taycan collection.

Frédéric Arnault, CEO of TAG Heuer says, “For both TAG Heuer and Porsche, the thrill of driving is part of our heritage, and this watch celebrates the fearless spirit of both Maisons – as well as highlights the sustainable innovation of the Taycan. This watch evokes many of the passions we share – high performance, technological innovation and our love for unique and unmatched products.”

Detlev von Platen, Member of the Executive Board for Sales and Marketing at Porsche AG, also adds, “This product highlights the natural synergy of our two brands: both fearless and disruptive in their respective fields, and both devoted to delivering unparalleled experiences to our customers. Our brands have led the way in embracing new technologies: just as TAG Heuer has led the luxury watch world in terms of embracing smartwatch technology, so Porsche’s sports cars such as the all electric Taycan innovate in their field.’

Starting with the exterior, the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Porsche Edition smartwatch offers much of the same spec as previous Connected Calibre E4 watches but with a distinctive new colour palette of black and blue. The 45mm case is engineered from lightweight black titanium with a sandblasted finish while the crown, pushers and bezel are detailed with accents of frozen blue metallic just like that seen on the car. On top, a black ceramic polished bezel cements its sporty personality with a dedicated scale going from zero to 400, referencing the Porsche car’s speed. This can be used to read functions relating to your own Porsche car or metrics like your heart rate. The Porsche logo in blue is also included on the bezel.

Securing the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Porsche Edition to the wrist is a newly designed strap inspired by the interior of the Porsche cars. The black calfskin leather band is given a carbon-like effect and detailed with electric blue stitching to match with the rest of the accents. The strap also has a rubber base for additional comfort and closes by a black DLC titanium folding clasp with double safety push-buttons. The TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Porsche watch also arrives with a spare black rubber strap in the box which like the leather one attached is easily interchangeable.

Exclusive to the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Porsche Edition smartwatch is the custom watch face nicknamed the “Circuit”. The design is inspired by both printed circuit boards and racing circuits delivering an undeniably cool animated visual effect. The custom dial is highlighted in the same electric blue and comes with three chronograph style counters which can be used to display information of your choosing such as your step count, heart rate or information drawn directly from compatible Porsche cars.

The most innovative feature of the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Porsche watch is its ability to connect with compatible Porsche cars. This means you can see information about your vehicle on the display. To do this, you simply connect the watch to the car using the exclusive Wear OS My Porsche app. You can then use any of the four unique complications. The first shows how much is left in the car’s battery and works with both all-electric Porsche and plug-in hybrids. The second shows off ‘car autonomy’ information, revealing how many kilometres are left before the car’s battery or gas runs out. The third is a shortcut to the Wear OS My Porsche app which permits users to control their vehicle heating and air conditioning. The last shows the total mileage driven in the car. To activate these features, users need to have Porsche ID, Porsche Connect subscription and the My Porsche app on the watch and phone. Compatible cars include the Panamera (G2 II models from 2022 onwards), Panamera (G2), 911 (992 models from 2022 onwards), 911, Cayenne (E3 models from 2022 onwards), Cayenne (E2 II), 718, Macan II/III, Macan and Taycan.

Aside from all mentioned above, the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 Porsche Special Edition delivers all the same cutting-edge technology as the rest of the Connected Calibre E4 collection including Wear OS by Google, a full day battery life, sensors for heart rate, compass, accelerometer, gyroscope, NFC, microphone and barometer and GNSS sensors including GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, QZSS and Galileo. You’ll also get the TAG Heuer Sport app for a range of fitness features and guided workouts as well as the latest Bluetooth 5.0.
