Japanese watch manufacturer Seiko extends their 5 Sports collection once again, this time with two stealthy camouflage-inspired editions. The first is a green Seiko 5 Sports Camo watch (SRPJ37) which remains part of the permanent collection while the second is a special 6,000 piece all-black limited edition designed in collaboration with skateboarder Yuto Horigome (SRPJ39).
Seiko have well and truly secured their 5 Sports watch collection as one of their most important designs since it was launched three years ago. The series started out as a range of sporty men’s watches inspired by their first ever automatic day date watch known as the Seiko Sportmatic 5. Since then, we’ve welcomed several variations like the 5 Sports Field with its outdoorsy aesthetic, the 5 Sports Flieger tailored for the cockpit and more recently, the 5 Sports SKX which adds a valuable GMT complication to its display. Every aesthetic has tempted us, appealing to our love of high-precision, durable sports watches for under £300. Now added onto our wish lists is a new duo of Seiko 5 Sports Camo watches inspired by street culture and skateboarding.
The Seiko 5 Sports Camo SRPJ37 Watch
Starting us off is the non-limited Seiko 5 Sports Camo SRPJ37 watch. This design truly speaks to the inner action man hiding inside of us with a stealthy green camouflage dial and black hard coated stainless steel case. It’s case measures to 42.5mm in diameter and 13.4mm in height and offers all the spec we’ve come to expect from the 5 Sports series including Hardlex crystal on top, a unidirectional rotating bezel, pull-push crown and a 100 metre water resistance. The dial ensures easy legibility with Lumibrite inserts on the hands and indexes and a day and date display at 3 o’clock. Powering the Seiko 5 Sports Camo SRPJ37 is the Calibre 4R36 automatic winding movement with 24 jewels , a 3Hz frequency and 41 hours of power reserve. Completing the watch is a black nylon NATO-style strap with a three-fold clasp.
The Seiko 5 Sports Camo Horigome Limited Edition SRPJ39 Watch
For the 6,000-piece limited edition Seiko 5 Sports Camo watch, the Japanese brand have collaborated with world-leading skateboarder, Yuto Horigome for the second time. The pair have worked together previously on another Seiko 5 Sports watch, this one part of the Street sub-collection. Similar in style, the new Seiko 5 Sports Camo Horigome Limited Edition SRPJ39 watch opts for a stealthy all-black look including a 42.5mm black hard coated stainless steel case and a new black camouflage textured dial. The unidirectional bezel is also finished in black and adorned with a white 60 minute scale. The rest of the specs match to the permanent 5 Sports Camo watch above including its 100 metre water resistance, Hardlex crystal glass, Lumibrite hardware and Calibre 4R36 movement. It opts for a black silicone band with a black three-fold clasp.
