Two powerhouses of the motorsport world, TAG Heuer and Porsche have combined their talents for performance, quality and innovation to reveal the new TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph watch. Inspired by the timeless Porsche 911 Carrera car, the special edition delivers an unmissable red, black and grey aesthetic reminiscent of the car manufacturer’s trademark colours and a sporty case and dial design based on the TAG Heuer Carrera Sport Chronograph released last year.
For many, the new partnership between TAG Heuer and Porsche is the perfect marriage. There’s no denying TAG Heuer has one of the strongest ties to motorsport than other luxury watch brand, showcased largely through their Carrera collection which was originally designed by car enthusiast and great-grandson of TAG Heuer’s founder, Jack Heuer, in 1963. Conveniently, German sports car brand Porsche is also synonymous with the Carrera name as it labels their most powerful engines. The TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph Special Edition embodies the authenticity of the alliance, upholding two of the world’s most dynamic luxury names with the very ideologies that make up their industries.
Announced in four variants last year, the TAG Heuer Carrera Sport Chronograph is the basis of the new TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph Special Edition with its robust and contemporary stainless steel case measuring to 44mm in diameter. Differing the design is the addition of a black ceramic bezel decorated with the Porsche name in red in Porsche’s own font, the same font also used on the indexes on the dial. The bezel is also detailed with a white tachymeter scale. The case continues to uphold the car manufacturer’s trademark tones with a red detailed crown and piston-style pushers for controlling the chronograph.
A favourite feature for many of the TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph Special Edition is its dial which has been purposely textured with an asphalt-like finish to evoke the same gritty grey surfaces of racecourses. The dial is further detailed with applied black gold-plated Arabic numerals and three subsidiary dials: one for small seconds and date and two for chronograph counters 12 hours and 30 minutes. Contrasting nicely against the asphalt dial, the subsidiary dials are adorned in black with snailed detailing and bright red markers and hands to match the red-tipped chronograph seconds hand at the centre.
Fuelling each of the functions on the dial is the iconic Heuer 02 automatic winding movement, a manufacture calibre with a healthy power reserve of 80 hours, 33 jewels and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The integrated architecture of the movement with column wheel and vertical clutch has been modified slightly to include a newly designed oscillating rotor that looks like the steering wheel of a Porsche 911 Carrera. The movement can be seen through the sapphire crystal glass back of the TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph which also helps deliver a water resistant rating of 100 metres.
The TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph Special Edition watch comes on two strap options, the first a classic H-link stainless steel bracelet and the second a black calfskin leather strap. The leather model continues the celebrations of the new partnership between TAG Heuer and Porsche with a luxurious design inspired by the aesthetics of the Porsche 911 Carrera’s interior. Both variants of the TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph are delivered in a special edition box with a black travel pouch and a red Porsche-inspired interior.
