Hamilton PSR MTX Limited Edition Watch Review

Alongside the long-awaited release of the fourth film in the Matrix series, Hamilton have launched a 1,999-piece limited edition Hamilton PSR MTX watch aimed to be styled for the likes of Neo, Trinity and Morpheus.

If you’ve been reading Horologii for a few years now, you might remember the review we did back in 2020 on the original Hamilton PSR watch. The design celebrated 50 years since the release of the old-school Hamilton Pulsar in 1970, the world’s first digital watch with no moving parts, no hands and no dial. Instead, it was characterised by a LED display which lit up with a push of a button on the side of the case. As you can imagine, the release of the Hamilton PSR was incredibly popular for its accurate reimagining of its predecessor and to be honest, we’re surprised it has taken this long for Hamilton to release another.

As for the new Hamilton PSR MTX Limited Edition, it has been launched alongside the release of the fourth Matrix film named The Matrix Resurrections. Directed by Lana Wachowski, it sees Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss revive their iconic roles as Neo and Trinity, arguably two of science-fiction’s most recognisable characters. Similarly recognisable as a Matrix-inspired watch, the Hamilton PSR MTX beautifully conjures up the digital universe of which the film is set with a monochrome black PVD coated case contrasting to the bold green digital numbers displayed on the LCD screen. Turn the watch over, and you’ll see yet another nod to the franchise with the digital rain décor widely associated with the film engraved onto the case back.

The rest of the Hamilton PSR MTX Limited Edition watch follows suit to its 2020 predecessors with a remarkably retro cushion-shaped case measuring in at 40.8mm by 34.7mm and tall glass sitting on top. This time, the glass offers higher levels of scratch resistance with sapphire crystal construction alongside an improved water resistant rating of 100 metres. Beneath the sapphire crystal glass, we have the same hybrid display combining LCD and OLED. The former ensures the time is always legible in daylight while the latter comes into action when you press the button on the side of the case for readability at night.

The Hamilton PSR MTX watch is finished by a matching black DLC three-row link bracelet and folding buckle and is limited to just 1,999 pieces to mark the year the first Matrix film was launched.
