Rado True Thinline Great Gardens of the World Four Seasons Collection Review

For the third time, Swiss watch manufacturer Rado launches an exclusive collection of True Thinline watches inspired by nature. This year, the Great Gardens of the World collection see’s four special editions reinstate the brand’s mastery for coloured ceramic each offering a design suggestive of a different season of the year. Meet the new Rado True Thinline Great Gardens of the World Four Seasons watch collection

In 2017, Rado forged a new partnership with Grandi Giardini Italiani, an organisation which puts focus on the most beautiful gardens in Italy and Malta. The collaboration introduced the True Thinline Nature collection, a series of limited edition watches inspired by the elements Earth, Water and Leaf. Then last year, Rado extended on the association but this time on a much larger scale by helping to launch the Great Gardens of the World. The network spans across 20 countries showcasing some of the world’s best designers and landscapers such as Australia’s Paul Bangay, China’s Kongjian Yu, Britain’s Dan Pearson and Italy’s Patrizia Pozzi. Now for 2022, the collection expands yet again with the Rado True Thinline Great Gardens of the World Four Seasons series, featuring four watches inspired by spring, summer, autumn and winter.

Like the rest of the Rado True Thinline watch collection, the new 2022 Great Gardens of the World line-up wonderfully showcases the brand’s prowess for coloured ceramic. The material has played a key role in the Swiss watch manufacturer’s heritage in luxury watchmaking ever since they first debuted their first “scratch resistant” watch, the Rado Integral, in 1986. High-tech ceramic has since been introduced in many of their other collections, most recently in their new Captain Cook line, boasting lightweight, scratch resistant and hypoallergenic properties.

Each of the new Rado True Thinline Great Gardens of the World Four Seasons watches feature their own coloured high-tech ceramic case corresponding to their season. The crown and bracelet are crafted from ceramic to match and paired with faceted sapphire crystal glass to protect the silvered hands for the hour and minutes. The cases sit incredibly low on the wrist, as they must as part of the True Thinline family, with a diameter of 39mm and a height of 6.3mm. The designs also offer a 30 metre water resistant rating and are powered by the Rado R420 quartz movement for a classic two-hand display with 13 jewels.

Starting off the four-piece collection is the Rado True Thinline Great Gardens of the World Spring watch which evokes the soft colours of early spring with a gorgeous pastel pink coloured ceramic case. The shade is exactly like that of blossom and extends onto the dial which is largely pink with some subtle elements of gradient silver at the centre. The dial also presents faceted sapphire crystal designed to look like a flower. Next is the Rado True Thinline Great Gardens of the World Summer watch which opts for bright sunshine yellow across the case and dial and sapphire crystal faceted like sun beams.

For the Rado True Thinline Great Gardens of the World Autumn watch, the brooding deep green tones of falling leaves and wet trees is embodied within an olive green coloured ceramic case and matching ceramic bracelet. Meanwhile, the gradient dial opts for hues of grey and green conjuring images of the blustery weather and darker nights. The sapphire crystal glass is neatly faceted to look like that of a leaf. Lastly, the Rado True Thinline Great Gardens of the World Winter watch concludes the collection with a crisp white ceramic case, a matching white dial and snowflake-facetted sapphire crystal glass.

The Rado True Thinline Great Gardens of the World Four Seasons watches can be ordered separately, or for avid watch aficionados, you can purchase the entire set as a limited edition collector’s box. The box houses all four timepieces allowing you to wear and swap around each design depending on your mood or the season. It is limited to 150 pieces.
