Hamilton PSR Digital Quartz Watches Review

An icon if there ever was one, Hamilton commemorate the legendary 1970’s Hamilton Pulsar with two new Hamilton PSR Digital Quartz watches. Available in stainless steel and limited edition yellow gold PVD, the new releases have been unveiled in time to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the company’s Pulsar Time Computer which became the first commercially sold digital watch and famously disrupted the market with its ground-breaking technology.

Regarded as one of the brand’s most emblematic creations, the Hamilton Pulsar sent an instant shockwave through the luxury watch industry on its unveiling in 1970 and on its release in 1972. Its futuristic aesthetic was like something out of a sci-fi film with its LED display that lit up when a button of the side was pressed. Forward thinking celebrities like Jack Nicholson, Joe Frazier, Elton John and Keith Richards all favourited the piece while Roger Moore wore it as James Bond in Live and Let Die.

The two new Hamilton PSR Digital Quartz watches have been released to celebrate its predecessor’s birthday and bring back to life the unmistakable style of the digital watch that changed the world. But of course, in typical Hamilton fashion, the new Hamilton PSR watches have improved on the original Pulsar in several ways to ensure reliability, durability and precision remain at the forefront of its design. The revolutionary display is now a hybrid LCD and OLED panel that displays the time constantly using the LCD portion as a dimmer which lights up the brighter OLED component when the button on the right hand side of the case is pushed.

Further improvements can be found on the Hamilton PSR Digital Quartz watches’ water resistant ratings which has been improved to 100 metres alongside enhanced scratch resistant and easy legibility sapphire crystal glass coated with anti-reflective treatment. Aside from that, the overall aesthetic of the new Hamilton PSR watches is almost identical to the original Pulsar. You can choose from two case materials both measuring to 40.8mm by 34.7mm, one fine brushed and polished stainless steel and the other a limited edition of 1,970 pieces crafted from stunning yellow gold PVD.

These extraordinary new Hamilton releases are a timely remembrance of where the digital watch world first began, and they remind us of how far we have come as a world now filled with so many amazing smartwatches and wearables. Just like the original Pulsar, both Hamilton PSR Digital watches are destined to become legends retailing at £675 for the steel and £900 for the limited edition gold.
