DOXA Sub 600T Steel Watch Collection Review

Following the launch of the DOXA Sub 600T Pacific earlier this year, a 200-piece limited edition that sold out in less than 3 days, the Swiss watch manufacturer launches a permanent collection of Sub 600T Steel watches in a whopping 24 different iterations.

Before we dive into the details of the new DOXA Sub 600T watch collection, let’s first take a quick glance back at the brand’s history to understand exactly why this series is so important, and thus, why it will undoubtedly be immensely popular. DOXA was first founded in 1889 and began as a simple manufacturer of dress watches. It was during the late 1960’s however that the brand turned its talents to producing professional diving instruments, and from there, their reputation changed forever. Over the years, they consulted with navy dive teams including the world-famous diver Jacques Cousteau engineering rugged, high-precision diving watches often adorned with orange and other bright coloured dials.

The DOXA Sub 300 marked the beginning of the brand’s journey in professional diving characterised by its tonneau-shaped case and beads of rice bracelet, and then just a few years after, the DOXA Sub 600T arrived opting for a sharper case, a larger notched unidirectional bezel and a crown off-set at 4 o’clock. The design was missing from the brand’s reinvented collections in more recent years until this past September, when DOXA launched the DOXA Sub 600T Pacific Limited Edition as part of their Watches and Wonders 2021 releases. It’s statement case, stunning ocean-blue dial and matching ceramic insert bezel left DOXA fans wanting more and as if by magic, here arrives a non-limited edition collection of DOXA Sub 600T Steel watches.

As with almost all of DOXA’s watch collections, the new Sub 600T is delivered in a huge range of colours including the legendary orange-dialled Professional, the silver Searambler, black Sharkhunter, navy Caribbean, yellow Divingstar and turquoise Aquamarine. Each colour is also paired with a FKM integrated rubber strap in the same colour as the dial, other than the Searambler which opts for a black strap. Alternatively, it can be brought on a chunky 3-link stainless steel bracelet with folding buckle and diving extension.

Other than their differing coloured dials and straps, all 24 references of the DOXA Sub 600T watch offer the same base specification including a 40mm barrel-shaped stainless steel case with brushed finishing, a 14.5mm height, a 600 metre water resistant rating – hence the name –, a screwed steel case back and a screw in crown at 4 o’clock. As tradition, the case back is also engraved with the familiar DOXA fish logo. Inside the case, each DOXA Sub 600 watch houses the automatic winding Sellita SW 200-1 movement with a power reserve of 38 hours, frequency of 28,800vph and a total of 26 jewels.

With six different dials and two styles of strap to choose from, the remaining twelve models comes from the choice of unidirectional bezel. There are two bezel inserts available, one in stainless steel with a sandblasted insert and the second with a glossy ceramic insert. The ceramic insert is available in black for all DOXA Sub 600T Steel watches other than the Caribbean which comes with a matching navy blue insert. All bezels are detailed with the signature US Navy no-decompression dive table with two separate scales, one on the outer depth ring and the other on the inner minute ring.

Completing the DOXA Sub 600T Steel watches is sapphire crystal glass which comes treated with anti-reflective coating for easy legibility of the matte dials. As diving watches, the dials boast large luminous markers including sharp tooth-shaped indexes at the 12, 6 and 9 positions, large hands for the hours and minutes and a luminous-tipped seconds hand. The hour hands are either outlined in black or white and orange, depending on the colour of dial and paired with a date window at 3 o’clock.
