Taking a step away from their long-standing heritage in aviation for a moment, Bell & Ross celebrate the country of Cuba and its culture of cigars with the launch of the new Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Edicion Limitada watch. Limited to just 250 pieces, the design opts for a delightfully warm rose gold and brown palette which comes delivered in a bespoke wooden box that converts into a humidor to fit up to 50 cigars.
The Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Edicion Limitada watch builds on the brand’s popular BR 05 series which was launched back in 2019. Characterised by its rounded-square architecture, four screw bezel and integrated bracelet, the design has been the focal point of much of Bell & Ross’ new releases. For this latest, the brand also extends upon another series, the Edición Limitada, which has delivered a series of stunning rose gold timepieces. The first was seen in 2006 with the BR Vintage 126 XL Edición Limitada, a rose gold chronograph from their Vintage collection. Then in 2015, the WW1 Edición Limitada extended the line taking inspiration from wrist-watches from the first World War with thin wire lugs and a round red gold case. Now, we have the Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Edicion Limitada Limited Edition offering a significantly more urban and contemporary design with a colourway inspired by the world of cigars.
Mixing together a combination of stainless steel and rose gold, the Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Edicion Limitada watch maintains all the familiar elements of the BR 05 collection including a strong 42mm cushion-shaped case which tapers effortlessly into integrated lugs and crown guards. The 18 carat rose gold expands across the bezel and bracelet links while stainless steel makes up the rest of the design, including the screw down crown and case back. Sapphire crystal glass is elected for protection of the dial and treated with a layer of anti-reflective coating. The Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Edicion Limitada is water resistant to 100 metres.
Pairing perfectly with the warmth of the rose gold case is a chocolate brown dial. According to Bell & Ross, a cigar is defined by two main elements: the colour of its wrapper and its shape and length. For the Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Edicion Limitada watch, the dark brown wrapper and red and gold ring accent of the Maduro cigar became the key inspiration for the design’s dial. Matte brown makes up the backdrop while elements of gold are added to the Arabic numerals, subsidiary counters and small seconds hand. Meanwhile, bold accents of red are elected for the stopwatch hands and for the lettering of the Edición Limitada inscription at 6 o’clock. The central hour and minute hands and stick indexes also offer inserts of glow in the dark Superluminova.
Powering the chronograph complication, which includes a central chronograph seconds hand and a 30 minutes counter at 9 o’clock, is the self-winding BR-CAL301 movement. The Swiss made automatic winding calibre runs at a frequency of 28,800vph and offers a total of 37 jewels and a power reserve of 42 hours. It also features a custom skeletonized rotor with a special medallion visible through the exhibition case back and a discreet date display between the 4 and 5 o’clock markers.
The Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Edicion Limitada Limited Edition is available on a choice of two straps. For a sportier and more affordable option, the design comes on a brown rubber strap with a vertical grooved pattern. The more opulent option is the 4N rose gold and stainless steel bracelet which matches effortlessly with the rest of the dual-toned case. With the sale of every 250-piece Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Limitada Edicion, you’ll also get a special wooden box embossed with the Bell & Ross logo on top in the form of a cigar ring in gilded steel and 5N gold. Inside the case, once you’ve removed the timepiece from within, the box is designed to be used as an authentic cigar case.
