Rado True Thinline Studs Limited Edition Watch Review

Designed in collaboration with award-winning British designer Bethan Gray, Rado have unveiled their new Rado True Thinline Studs Limited Edition watch. This bold, fashion-conscious timepiece is the first wearable design created by Gray who is more commonly known for her contemporary and breathtaking furniture and textile creations.

Just one quick glance over Bethan Gray’s website and it’s easy to see why she won the ‘Best British Designer’ award in 2013/2014. Her use of colours, textures and luxurious materials is almost overpowering, and it is obvious when you look at the Rado True Thinline Studs Limited Edition watch that she has put the same attention to detail into the watch’s design.

The Rado True Thinline Studs Limited Edition watch is definitely one to be worn over the sleeve as its gorgeous grey patterned dial and daring strap design does not want to be missed. Just like all Rado True Thinline watches, this limited edition boasts the same impressive scratch resistance and lightweight feel, all down to the 39mm high tech matte-black ceramic case.

It’s difficult to decide whether it’s the dial or strap of the Rado True Thinline Studs Limited Edition watch that steals the show. The dial boasts a golden halo encompassing a shimmering grey marquetry pattern that can not be truly appreciated unless you witness the light dance off its curves. The face is kept clean and simple with dainty gold hour and minute hands and the Rado logo at 12 o clock.

Meanwhile, the black leather strap is detailed with punk-like gold studs that somehow remain feminine and classy. The strap of the Rado True Thinline Studs Limited Edition watch also looks as though it has taken inspiration from one of Bethan Gray’s own furniture designs, a stud leather coffee table that retails for over twice as much as its timepiece counterpart.

The Rado True Thinline Studs Limited Edition watch retails at £1,560, a price that many might argue is a little high for a quartz timepiece. However, when you compare this to other works by Bethan Gray, whether it be a teacup retailing at £520 or a 4 door cabinet worth nearly £15,000, you might change your mind. The Rado True Thinline Studs watch is limited to 1,001 pieces, with 1 being owned by Bethan Gray herself. For more information on this watch and where to order your own, click here.
