MeisterSinger Salthora Meta X Watch Review

We absolutely love talking about Meistersinger watches and the new MeisterSinger Salthora Meta X collection makes for a truly interesting conversation. Famous for their single hand mechanisms that are conventionally housed within a sophisticated and contemporary design, we were overcome with surprise when we learnt that the German manufacturer were releasing a selection of three dive watches.

The MeisterSinger Salthora Meta X watches are really quite impressive and have managed to combine the functions necessary for a dive watch with their single hand design. For those that are familiar with dive watches will know that the minute hand is one of the most important functions to have when diving. It is crucial that divers can accurately measure the duration of a diving session and the amount of breathing gas left in their tank. To do this, divers will set the rotating bezel to an agreed time that they must return to surface. When the minute hand reaches the marker on the bezel, they know they are almost out of air.

Meistersinger’s famous single hand display could not work on a diver’s watch since it does not accurately display minutes like a conventional timepiece. Instead, the MeisterSinger Salthora Meta X watches incorporate a jumping hour window at 12 o clock alongside a standard minute hand. The functions are powered by the ETA 2824-2 or Sellita SW200-1 automatic winding calibre which also equips the timepiece with a power reserve of 38 hours.

The aesthetic of the MeisterSinger Salthora Meta X watches have been well thought out. It’s sturdy 43mm stainless steel case is water resistance to 200 metres and has been equipped with a screw down case back and a large and easily manageable screw down crown which can be used even with large diving gloves on. The bold rotating bezel is also extremely durable and has a distinctive look with a zirconium ceramic insert and pronounced notches around the outside.

There are three variations of the MeisterSinger Salthora Meta X watch currently available. Two black dial versions – one with red accents and the other with green – and a classic blue coloured design. Each dial design boasts large Arabic numerals and a needle like minute hand, all decorated in a luminescent coating for easy legibility. The only thing the dial is missing is a seconds hand, something that is required by the ISO standards for dive watches. But when you think about it, if a seconds hand was added you would lose the extraordinary design feature that Meistersinger are loved for.

Each MeisterSinger Salthora Meta X watch retails at £2,995, a price that we think is fair considering the detail and effort that has gone into making this one-of-a-kind collection. For more information on these watches and where to order them, click here.
