Zodiac Super Sea Wolf World Time GMT Watch Review

One watch we’ve been waiting to get our hands on for months is the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf World Time GMT. Its release was actually expected a little earlier in the year but after a notable typo was spotted on the world time bezel, the collection became delayed and consequently, so was its arrival on our wrists! The wait was worth it however, and today we are finally testing out it’s handsome 70’s inspired design.

Zodiac’s heritage is something we’ve never covered in much detail, but we really should. Since their founding more than 100 years ago, they have pushed the limits of Swiss timekeeping innovation, whether it’s their extra flat pocket watch from 1924 or the release of their legendary Sea Wolf series in 1953, the latter being arguably the brand’s most notable design offering serious diving functionality to the masses. Also included in their long list of achievements is a world timer watch launched in 1970 with a distinctive retro aesthetic, statement world timer bezel, red GMT hand and contrasting 24 hour scale. As you can probably tell from this description, the new Zodiac Super Sea Wolf World Time GMT follows remarkably close to the design codes of its historic predecessor.

There are currently two Zodiac Super Sea Wolf World Time GMT watches available, both limited editions of 500 examples and promising familiar Sea Wolf architecture with 40mm stainless steel cases, tapering lugs and an unguarded crown at 3 o’clock signed off by the Zodiac logo. The cases stand out however to their skin-diving counterparts with a slightly thicker case shape of 13.6mm but thanks to a slightly concaved case back, it sits really nicely and unassuming on the wrist. The case back is kept closed with a brushed finish centre helping provide a water resistant rating of 200 metres.

One of the most distinctive visual cues on the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf World Time GMT watches is the bezel. Executed in either red or black, the bezel inserts are decorated with a list of 24 global cities to correlate with different time zones. To set the time, you simply use its bi-directional rotating functionality to align your location with the time on the inner 24 hour ring. On top of that, you also get the stick-shaped GMT hand in red at the centre so you can display two time zones simultaneously.

The Zodiac Super Sea Wolf World Time GMT watch under reference ZO9409 opts for the black bezel with a similar matte grey dial and white 24 hour scale while it’s model number ZO9410 that delivers the red bezel and pairs it with a contrasting silver sunray dial and black outer scale. Both designs showcase a red GMT hand alongside matching stick-shaped hands for the hours and minutes, a box-shaped lollipop seconds hand, faceted hour markers and a date window at 3 o’clock. The three central hands all ensure easy legibility with Superluminova inserts protected beneath sapphire crystal glass.

Housed within each Zodiac Super Sea Wolf World Time GMT watch is the Soprod C125 automatic winding movement. This is one of the newer Swiss made calibres in the industry, having been launched back in 2016, but it’s reliable GMT layout, 42 hour power reserve, 25 jewels and frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour has become a solid fixture for many other luxury watch brands.

One thing we’ve always been able to applaud Zodiac on is their price point and the new Zodiac Super Sea Wolf World Time GMT retain the same affordability. Each 500-piece limited edition design retails at only £1,499 and can be ordered on the Jura Watches website here.
