Longines Heritage 1945 Watch Review

First unveiled at last year’s Baselworld, the Longines Heritage 1945 watch is finally in stock and ready to decorate vintage lovers wrists. This retro reissue is inspired by an older Longines watch and the designers have done an incredible job at maintaining its gorgeous vintage aesthetic. At an impressive price of only £1,330 too, it’s a lot of watch for the buck.

Measuring to 40mm in diameter, the new Longines Heritage 1945 watch has increased its size from the original 38mm but kept the same polished stainless steel for its case. The bezel is kept slim and unassuming giving the retro timepiece a sophisticated element while scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass houses the dial with anti-reflective coating on the underside.

The dial is easily the main attraction of the Longines Heritage 1945 watch. The original model boasted a salmon coloured face while the reissue has gone for a slightly more copper or champagne finish. The same font on the Arabic numerals and design of the 6 cabochons around the dial have been used giving the dial a perfect balance. What we are most pleased about though is that Longines were able to resist adding a date feature to the dial like they have done with so many other Heritage reissue models.

For many vintage watch lovers, there may be some hard feelings towards the brand for not choosing a manual winding movement like the calibre 12.68Z that powered the original model. Instead, Longines have decided to arm the new Longines Heritage 1945 watch with an automatic mechanical movement, the L609.3 calibre to be exact, which is based on the ETA 2895/2. The movement equips the timepiece with hour and minute hands, a small seconds dial at 6 o clock and a power reserve of 42 hours.

Turn the Longines Heritage 1945 watch over and you are greeted to a closed case back engraved with the stunning EFCo decoration. For those that don’t know, this gorgeous embellishment refers to the founder of Longines – Ernest Francillon. To complete the vintage appeal of the Longines Heritage 1945 watch, it comes complete with a beige leather strap with white stitch detailing and a stainless-steel buckle.

Adaptable to any occasion, the Longines Heritage 1945 watch is a must have for any watch collector particularly those who are always falling for the retro reissues. The timepiece is in stock now and retails at only £1,330. For more information on the Longines Heritage 1945 watch and where to order your own, click here.
