Grand Seiko Black Ceramic SBGC219 Limited Edition Watch Review

Continuing to widen its appeal, Grand Seiko have released the stunning Grand Seiko Black Ceramic SBGC219 Limited Edition watch, a remarkable new hybrid of titanium and ceramic with a bold sporty aesthetic. It has been launched especially to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Spring Drive Chronograph GMT movement, also known as the 9R96 automatic calibre.

Grand Seiko pride themselves on having some of the most accurate and reliable watch movements in the world, with the majority of their models promising a variation of only one second per day. However with the new Grand Seiko Black Ceramic SBGC219 Limited Edition watch, they have suggested it may well be “the most accurate luxury chronograph in the world” offering a variation of only ten seconds a month. This impressive claim along with the unique titanium and ceramic construction makes the new Grand Seiko Black Ceramic SBGC219 Limited Edition watch a very sought after model.

Limited to only 5,000 pieces, the striking new model has been adorned with the famous Grand Seiko blue and a stunning new rose gold tone, a combination that has never been done before by the brand. The rose gold decorates the hands, markers and most importantly the oscillating weight which carries an 18 carat rose gold Grand Seiko lion to mark the enhanced precision of the 9R96 movement. You can also find a beautiful 18 carat rose gold Grand Seiko logo on the buckle of the bracelet.

The Grand Seiko Black Ceramic SBGC219 Limited Edition watch, thanks to its light weight hybrid titanium and ceramic case and bracelet, is a pleasure to wear. It is suitably sized at 46.4mm in diameter and 16.2mm in thickness and has a bold looking tachymeter on the bezel. The dial has been designed to be effortless to read with diamond cut hands and markers, extended GMT and minute hands and Lumibrite inserts on the hands and markers. The case of the Grand Seiko Black Ceramic SBGC219 Limited Edition watch glistens thanks to the mirror finish polish and the signature sharp angels of each component. Cleverly, the zirconia ceramic parts on the bracelet are also raised slightly above the level of the titanium making it virtually impervious to scratches.
