TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 1000 Superdiver Watch Review

Exactly a year ago, TAG Heuer reimagined their iconic Aquaracer with a mass of upgrades across the board. Now following in the footsteps of the Aquaracer Professional 300 series is an even more extreme and robust edition: the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 1000 Superdiver. Featuring a whopping 1,000 metre water resistant rating and a special movement produced exclusively by Kenissi Manufacture SA, the Aquaracer offers reliability and durability like never before.

The TAG Heuer Aquaracer watch has been the brand’s flagship diving instrument ever since its launch in 2004. The brands underwater legacy however began well before that. In the early 1970’s, the released their famous Heuer Ref.844, the design that inspired much of the modern-day Professional 300 series. Shortly later, they launched the 1000m Diver in 1982, a large 41.5mm stainless steel instrument finding use within prestigious organisations like La Spirotechnique, the company founded by Jacques-Yves Cousteau. Two years later and the 1000m Diver was joined by the Super Professional, another icon amongst TAG Heuer dive watches promising incredible durability under the water helped by a toothy bezel and bracelet with extension buckle. In extension of their already well-established heritage, TAG Heuer now launches the Aquaracer Professional 1000 Superdiver as part of their 2022 Watches & Wonders showcase, yet another luxury diving tool capable of withstanding pressures of up to 1,000 metres.

TAG Heuer has been developing bold and innovative luxury tool watches for over 40 years, and the Aquaracer Professional 1000 Superdiver is the essence of our unique expertise in this area. This super dive watch joins the entirely reimagined Aquaracer Professional 300 collection launched last year, which now comprises 11 models. We are delighted to launch our latest TAG Heuer Aquaracer at the new edition of Watches and Wonders. It is a watch capable of overcoming all challenges.” – CEO of TAG Heuer, Frédéric Arnault.

Guaranteeing its 1,000 metre water resistant rating, the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 1000 Superdiver is fitted with a special helium escape valve to enable gas to escape from within the case. The helium escape valve is not hidden but proudly displayed at the side of the 45mm case and finished in black DLC coating. It is also engraved with the letters “He”, the symbol for helium in the periodic table. Because of this, the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 1000 Superdiver has received ISO 6425:2018 certification for saturation divers’ watches. This certification is certainly not easy to obtain and as such is rare among divers watches.

The case of the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 1000 Superdiver is engineered from grade 5 titanium which only further aids its durability while also making it wonderfully light on the wrist. Like the Professional 300 Series watches before it, the case maintains an elegant architecture with a  thickness of just 15.75mm and a 12-sided bezel. The bezel is forged from black ceramic and includes a segmented highlighted in orange, the portion most used for timing decompression stops. The case also features a more substantial crown protector for the safe screwing and unscrewing of the crown and an orange seal around the crown tube to indicate when the screw down crown has been properly fixed. Completing the case of the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 1000 Superdiver watch is a screw down stainless steel case back engraved with the iconic Aquaracer diving helmet.

A huge highlight of the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 1000 Superdiver watch is the movement. It is the first timepiece from the brand to make use of the Calibre TH30-00 produced by Kenissi Manufacture SA, one of the most highly regarded movement manufacturers in the world. The calibre has been manufactured exclusively for the Swiss watch brand and marks the beginning of a new relationship between the two ateliers. COSC certified and benefitting from an extended international warranty of up to 5 years, the Calibre TH30-00 boasts a 70 hour power reserve alongside hours, minutes, seconds and date function.

Displaying the time-and-date complications of the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 1000 Superdiver is a black sunray brushed dial detailed with the familiar grooved decoration of the Aquaracer series. As expected for a divers watch, legibility is guaranteed with a newly designed arrow-shaped hour hand with a large insert of Superluminova, orange coloured hour and minute hands and Superluminova coated indices. The glow in the dark treatment used isn’t just your standard Superluminova either, but the highest grade of such, Superluminova SLN Grade X1. It boasts an extremely powerful and bright lume for optimal readability in the dark. The dial also presents the date at 6 o’clock enhanced by a magnifying lens.

Completing the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 1000 Superdiver watch is a matching three-row link grade 5 titanium bracelet. It secures around the wrist by a matching titanium folding clasp with a fine adjustment system allowing you to extend or reduce the bracelet length by up to 1.5 cm. The TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 1000 Superdiver is also delivered within a custom protective case which the brand describes as being just as resistant as the watch. Inside, you’ll also find a rescue dive torch.
