Louis Erard Ultima Limited Edition Watch Review

Realising the undeniable and powerful connection between the watchmaking and automotive worlds, luxury Swiss watchmakers Louis Erard have combined forces with British supercar manufacturer Ultima to bring to life their brand new Louis Erard Ultima Limited Edition watch. Both names share the same core principles of excellence, ambition and accuracy; fundamentals that have been uniquely hallmarked within the design of the new chronograph timepiece.

This is of course not the first time a luxury watch brand has partnered up with a car manufacturer to create a novelty watch, just look at Ball and BMW, Breitling and Bentley and Baume et Mercier and the Cobra. However there is something truly extraordinary about the new relationship between independent Swiss watch manufacturer Louis Erard and Ultima supercars, two companies passionate about creating beautiful and powerful machines.

What I find most admiring about Louis Erard is not only their modesty as one of the few remaining independent watch brands still manufacturing at the bench in the small Swiss village of Le Noirmont, but they have a unique ability to make charming timepieces that are as affordable as they are luxurious. The brand have been manufacturing within the same quaint town since 1931 and the Louis Erard Ultima Limited Edition watch was designed to celebrate their 85th anniversary, becoming a testament to the same traditional craftsmanship that was used when the brand was first founded.

With a similar philosophy, Ultima supercars began production in 1983 and have since broke almost every speed record for road cards with their own models. Renowned for their pulse raising and adrenaline rushing machines, Ultima even became banned from the sport in 1991 for being unfairly fast and mercilessly beating their competitors.

The new Louis Erard Ultima Limited Edition watch which combines the sophistication and excitement of both brands has been specially designed and detailed with the Ultima supercars in mind. The 1930’s chronograph dials recall the gold dashboard counters while the black and gold bespoke perforated leather strap is reminiscent of the gold stitching upholstery found in the Ultima Evolution car. The striking black carbon fibre dial and sleek frosted steel hands and indices are housed beneath scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass and the open case back is detailed further by the Ultima logo and an engraved Louis Erard oscillating weight.
