Breitling Premier Heritage Watch Collection Review

Breitling Premier Heritage Watch Collection Review

One of the biggest launches last week, amidst the remarkable volume of new Watches and Wonders 2021 releases, was the Breitling Premier Heritage watch collection. Taking inspiration from the brand’s three leading founders, Leon Breitling, his son Gaston and his grandson Willy, and their contributions towards the development of the chronograph, the new Breitling Premier Heritage watches reveal incredible chronograph functionality alongside several other rare and impressive complications.

First launched in 1943, during a time of war for much of the world, the Breitling Premier watch collection was decidedly introduced to bring non combatants a choice of wrist wear that was elegant and refined and yet still boasted the same versatility and robustness of all Breitling watches before it. The collection was subject to much admiration and characterised largely by three powerful and highly complex models: the Premier Chronograph, the Premier Datora and the Premier Duograph. These three designs in particular embodied the luxury watch manufacturer’s prowess for Swiss craftsmanship, crafted from a choice of stainless steel or solid gold and ranging from a small and elegant 32mm to a larger and sporty 38mm diameter.

The timeless elegance of these three new models are revived again today in the new Breitling Premier Heritage watch collection. The family includes six watches in total, each divided into three distinctive categories: the Premier Heritage B09 Chronograph 40, the Breitling Premier Heritage B15 Duograph 42 and the Breitling Premier Heritage B25 Datora 42.

This heritage-inspired design with a stylish modern twist embodies some of Breitling’s most famous innovations, and revives Breitling’s legacy of inventing the modern chronograph. This truly is our heritage revived,” says Georges Kern of Breitling’s new Premier Heritage collection.

Breitling Premier Heritage B09 Chronograph 40

Opting for a traditional bi-compax chronograph layout, the Breitling Premier Heritage B09 Chronograph 40 watch is available in two variations. The first under reference AB0930D31L1P1 is dressed in classic stainless steel while the second variant RB0930371G1P1 delivers a more opulent aesthetic lined in 18 carat rose gold. The stainless steel model pairs its refinedness with a unique pistachio green-coloured dial while the gold case pairs with a crisp silver dial adorned with matching gold hands and numbers.

Housed within each Breitling Premier Heritage Chronograph watch is the Breitling Manufacture Caliber B09, a manual wound, COSC certified movement that performs at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour with 47 jewels and an impressive power reserve of 70 hours. It is developed with a column wheel mechanism and vertical clutch delivering superior control over the central chronograph seconds hand and 30 minutes counter at 3 o’clock. The movement also provides the Breitling Premier Heritage B09 Chronograph with central hands for hours and minutes and a small seconds dial at 9 o’ clock. The movement can be seen through the sapphire crystal case back and is protected by a water resistant rating of 100 metres. We covered the Breitling Premier Heritage Chronograph in a more detail here.

Breitling Premier Heritage B15 Duograph 42

A complication that is rare to see in much of the luxury watch industry is the Rattrapante, otherwise known as a split second’s chronograph. This unique function delivers two chronograph seconds hands instead of one and for the first time can be found within the Breitling Premier Heritage B15 Duograph 42 watches. The COSC-certified Breitling Caliber B15 hand-winding powers the complication alongside the central hands for hours and minutes, 12-hour chronograph, a small seconds dial at 6 o’clock, a 30 minutes counter at 9 o’clock and power reserve of 70 hours.

The first Breitling Premier Heritage Duograph reference is AB1510171C1P1 dressed in classic stainless steel with a handsome blue dial and warm brown alligator leather strap. The second is again the more luxurious but is engineered entirely out of 18 carat rose gold and presents its split seconds function on a black dial with rose gold numerals and hands. The rose gold RB1510251B1P1 reference is awarded a black alligator leather strap. Each Breitling Premier Heritage Duograph watch measures to 42mm in diameter and delivers sapphire crystal glass on both the front and back end, a non-screw locked crown with two gaskets, a smooth unadorned bezel and a 100 metre water resistant rating. We covered the Breitling Premier Heritage Duograph in a more detail here.

Breitling Premier Heritage B25 Datora 42

Last but certainly not least in the line-up of Breitling Premier Heritage watches is the B25 Datora 42 watch. Inspired by their 1940’s predecessor, the new duo offers the most complications out of the lot including standard chronograph complication with a central chronograph seconds hand and a 30 minutes counter, full calendar function with a double window display for day and month at 12 o’clock and a subsidiary dial at 6 o’clock which points to the date and presents a moonphase aperture at the centre. This extensive list of functionality is all powered by the Breitling Manufacture Calibre B25 with a power reserve of 48 hours.

Again, we are spoiled with two designs. The first comes under reference AB2510201K1P1 which awards the 42mm stainless steel case with a unique copper-coloured dial while the second reference RB2510371G1P1 pairs 18 carat rose gold with a classic silver dial dressed in matching rose gold Arabic numerals and hands. Both models are completed by a dark brown alligator leather strap. As always, sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment protects the face while a non-screw locked crown, screw down exhibition case back and fixed bezel help assist in a 10 bar water resistant rating.
