Bremont Solo Maya Ladies Watch Review

Bremont extends upon their luxury ladies watch collection with the launch of the new Bremont Solo Maya Ladies watch. The design beautifully fuses contemporary, durable design with the elegance of solid rose gold and Tahitian mother of pearl.

I remember so clearly the moment Bremont unveiled to me their first ladies watch back at the 2016 Baselworld event. As a woman with high standards when it comes to luxury watches, it was a pleasure to see my favourite British watch brand deliver something suited to my smaller wrist and ever since, my Bremont Solo 32 watch has joined me through much of my watch-obsessed life. Over the last two years in particular, we’ve seen Bremont put even more focus on their women’s collection, unveiling limited edition designs like the 2020 Bremont Hawking Quantum inspired by the physicist of the same name as well as last year’s stunning duo of Bremont Lady K watches. Similar to the latter is today’s mother of pearl release, the Bremont Solo Maya Ladies watch with a larger case size of 37mm and a gorgeous iridescent Tahitian mother of pearl dial.

Bremont Co-Founder Nick English comments on the Bremont Maya watch, One of our most successful ladies’ models to date has been the Solo 37 Rose Gold from which the Maya is very much inspired. The Maya has a definitive air of elegance to it with the distinctive Tahitian mother of pearl dial framed by the rose gold detailing. It’s a piece very much aimed at the female watch lover who truly appreciates the quality, beauty and craftsmanship that has gone into a precision chronometer. As with all of our watches, it’s a timepiece designed to be worn for generations.”

Starting off with the case, the Bremont Solo Maya Ladies watch elects stainless steel across much of its 37mm architecture which has been engineered using the British watch brand’s Trip-Tick case construction. In the press release, Bremont have also noted that the steel used has been hardened in the UK to over 2000 Vickers. This makes it seven times more scratch resistant than standard watch grade steel. In contrast to the brushed and polished stainless steel is a gorgeous 18 carat rose gold bezel and a knurled gold crown at 3 o’clock. The case also boasts a height of 12.93mm, domed sapphire crystal glass on top and a water resistant rating of 100 metres.

Without a doubt, the real novelty of the Bremont Solo Maya Ladies watch is the dial. Like one of the Lady K watches launched last year, it presents a mesmerising Tahitian mother of pearl display which according to Bremont takes inspiration from the natural deep water pools in the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, the same that provided the original water supply to the ancient Maya – hence the watch’s name. Decorating the black mother of pearl is stunning rose gold hardware including a triangle marker at the 12 o’clock position, baton markers for the 3, 6 and 9 positions, sword shaped hands and a lollipop seconds hand. All of the above are liberally adorned with blue emission Superluminova. A date window is also included at 3 o’clock.

On the mechanical side of things, the Bremont Maya Solo Ladies watch utilises the modified BE-36AE.D automatic winding movement. Alongside its usual Glucydur balance, Anachron balance spring and Nivaflex mainspring, we’re promised to 26 jewels, a 38 hour power reserve and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The movement is left visible through the flat sapphire crystal glass case back and offers standard decoration including an openworked Bremont-decorated rotor. We may have been a little hasty to expect the brand’s first in-house movement to debut here, something we have been anticipating since the opening of their Wing facility, but a girl can dream.

The Bremont Solo Maya Ladies watch is completed by a choice of three straps. The first is a traditional three-row link stainless steel bracelet with brushed and polished links and a folding buckle. The second is a decisively feminine pink calfskin leather strap with embossed alligator print. Lastly, our personal favourite, there’s the choice of a timeless grey calfskin leather strap. Both leather straps are also available in two sizes, regular or small, so make sure to request the right one if you’re planning on ordering.
