Grand Seiko 9F Quartz GMT Watches Review

It’s a watch collectors dream come true, Grand Seiko have just announced the release of three incredible Grand Seiko 9F Quartz GMT watches alongside the unveiling of their very first 9F quartz GMT movement which has been designed and built entirely in-house by the brand themselves.  One of the trio is a 25th anniversary limited edition boasting a stunning textured dial and a special calibre that produces a higher degree of accuracy of ±5 seconds a year!

There are three new Grand Seiko 9F Quartz GMT watches to be released, the first is the sporty SBGN003 which showcases a 39mm stainless steel case, a striking black dial with bold orange accents and the 9F86 calibre which has an accuracy of around ±10 seconds per year. Following its lead is the SBGN005 which has the same case size and 9F quartz movement but instead boasts a blue dial with unmissable red accents.

The third and most notable of the trio is the Grand Seiko 9F Quartz GMT Limited Edition SBGN001 watch designed to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the creation of the 9F movement. This immaculate piece takes hold of your attention immediately with its charcoal grey and bright yellow dial, a colour combination first for Grand Seiko. The dial is also detailed with the famous pointed star icon and a gorgeous textured pattern that reads ‘GS9F’ over and over to tribute the calibre’s birthday. The SBGN001 model showcases the same 9F86 calibre as the other two in the trio but instead this quartz movement has been modified to have a higher degree of accuracy of only ±5 seconds a year.

Designed for travel-minded collectors, each Grand Seiko 9F Quartz GMT watch comes equipped with a handy 24-hour GMT hand and an independently changeable hour hand. This incredible adjustable feature means that you can effortlessly adjust the hour hand backwards or forwards without having to stop the movement entirely and disturbing the movements excellent accuracy.

The 25th anniversary Grand Seiko 9F Quartz GMT has bought Christmas forward this year for many watch collectors, with a design and movement that is a first for Grand Seiko. Limited to 800 pieces as well, this impressive piece is not expected to last long when it’s released this November.
