Cuervo y Sobrinos Robusto Day Date Churchill Watch Review

To tribute our country’s most celebrated and successful prime minister for his leadership during the Second World War, Cuervo y Sobrinos have released this stunning new Cuervo y Sobrinos Robusto Day Date Churchill watch that is limited to only 2,000 pieces. The exquisite design honors Sir Winston Churchill, a man who was named the greatest Briton of all time, beating the likes of William Shakespeare and Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

You may be thinking, what does a Cuban watch manufacturer have to do with British politics? It turns out that not only was Churchill a huge cigar enthusiast, particularly of the Cuban variety, but he was also a former client of the original Cuervo y Sobrinos boutique in La Habana.  It is believed he visited the Cuervo y Sobrinos boutique on more than one occasion, joining a remarkable list of luminaries such as Einstein, Gable and Hemingway who were also believed to have frequented the shop.

Cuervo y Sobrinos has a truly interesting history, one that makes their new timepiece designs that more extraordinary. The original company was based in the capital of Cuba but was then shut down for several years to be revived in Switzerland. Thankfully, the same ‘Latin soul’ that was found in the brand’s original designs remains today. In particular, this Cuervo y Sobrinos Robusto Day Date Churchill watch boasts a striking mix of vintage elegance and modern technical prowess.

It’s mesmerizing cracked effect dial is easily the centerpiece of the design, crafted from lacquered white ceramic and structured in grey anthracite, it effortlessly portrays the brand’s inimitable and extraordinary aesthetic. The Arabic numerals and subtle second points printed around the edge as well as the brand’s emblem, Churchill stamp and limited-edition number are painted in blue to beautifully contrast the crisp white background.

The Cuervo y Sobrinos Robusto Day Date Churchill watch is powered by the CYS 5204 automatic movement based on the Sellita SW240. The exquisite calibre can be watched hard at work through the transparent sapphire crystal case back where you can admire the personalised oscillating mass and blued screws. The self winding movement equips the Cuervo y Sobrinos Robusto Day Date Churchill watch with hours, minute and seconds function, a small but surprisingly legible date window at 3 o clock, a day aperture at 12 o clock and an impressive power reserve of 38 hours.

The sophisticated stainless steel case of the Cuervo y Sobrinos Robusto Day Date Churchill watch measures to a universal 43mm diameter and a sleek 12.45mm in height, allowing the case and lugs to mould elegantly to the wrist. Like the rear, the face is protected by scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass with antireflective treatment and for extra security, the timepiece is secured by a choice of a striking blue Louisana alligator leather strap or a stainless steel bracelet.

The Cuervo y Sobrinos Robusto Day Date Churchill watch does a fantastic job of not only honoring a great man but bringing together an aesthetic inspired by both British elegance and Cuban mystery. As a limited-edition model of only 2,000 pieces, this design will not be around forever. For more information on this watch and where to order your own, click here.
