Bremont Jaguar E-Type 60th Anniversary Limited Edition Review

In celebration of the 60th anniversary of Jaguar’s iconic E-type sports car, Jaguar Classic and Bremont have teamed up once again to deliver a truly one-of-a-kind, limited edition box set. Alongside one of two different coloured Bremont Jaguar E-Type 60th Anniversary Limited Edition watches, the set will include the British watch manufacturer’s first ever rally timer and a unique driving experience hosted by Jaguar Classic.

There is well over a decade of history between Bremont and Jaguar with the pair first combining their British manufacture in 2010. This celebrated the legendary Jaguar C-X75 for which Bremont developed an analogue dashboard clock in keeping with the supercar’s powerful performance. Since then, there has been an extensive portfolio of Bremont Jaguar watches that followed including the iconic MKI and MKII models and the 300-piece limited edition Bremont Jaguar D-Type. Similarly, to its limited edition predecessor, the new Bremont Jaguar E-Type 60th Anniversary watch sees Jaguar Classic restarting production of a special series of cars, this time six pairs of the Jaguar E-Type dressed in the same colours of the watches: “Flat Out Grey” and “Drop Everything Green”.

It has been such a tremendous relationship, with real longevity between the two brands. Being able to work with Jaguar on the 60th celebration of this iconic car is a real honour. There is so much detail and inspiration to work with on the watch designs and doing our first rally timer is a perfect and fitting tribute.” – Nick English, Bremont Co-Founder

History of the Jaguar E-Type

Described by Enzo Ferrari himself as ‘the most beautiful car in the world’, the Jaguar E-Type is widely regarded as one of the most important and attractive-looking sports cars of all time. When it was first debuted in 1961 at the Geneva Motor Show, the world was not ready for what it could do. This is during an era when 70mph was rapid for the average family runabout and yet here was the Jaguar E-Type, a 265 brake horsepower, 3.8 litre straight-six machine with a top speed of over 150 mph. On top of that, the sports car had a half-price price tag compared to Aston Martin and Ferrari.

At the Geneva Motor Show, the Jaguar E-Type completely stole the show and every motoring headline, becoming a symbol in itself of the glamour and excitement of the swinging 60’s. The original E-Type to be debuted was a 9600 HP Coupe but after such a fantastic public reaction, another Jaguar car was dispatched from Browns Lane. Famously, a 77 RW Roadster drove through the night to join the 9600 HP in Geneva, arriving just 11 hours after leaving the factory driving at an average speed of 69mph. In celebration of the 60th anniversary, alongside the Bremont Jaguar E-Type watches, Jaguar Classic will create six matched pairs of two cars inspired by the original classics, the 9600 HP and the 77 RW. These will be built for six owners to enjoy by a hand-picked team at Jaguar Classic.

Bremont Jaguar E-Type 60th Anniversary Limited Edition Watches

Now let’s talk about the Bremont Jaguar E-Type 60th Anniversary Limited Edition watches. Like the cars that Jaguar Classic are creating, these two breathtaking timepieces are inspired by the original 9600 HP and the 77 RW E-Types debuted at the Geneva Motor Show. The first is dressed in a green bezel and strap designed to evoke the Drop Everything Green ‘77RW’ roadster while the second, with its more classic grey bezel and strap takes inspiration from the Flat Out Grey ‘9600 HP’. The pair are limited to 60 pieces each in celebration of the 60th anniversary.

Other than their bezel and strap colourway, the Bremont Jaguar E-Type watches deliver the same case profile, dial design and overall functionality. At the centre, a handsome black metal dial follows the aesthetics of the E-Types instrument gauges with chamfered hour and minute hands inspired by the car’s tachometer needle. The small seconds dial at 9 o’clock is also uniquely detailed like a speedometer and both the Jaguar and Bremont logos are presented centre stage, the British watch manufacturer at 12 o’clock and the sports car icon at 6 o’clock.

The Bremont Jaguar E-Type 60th Anniversary Limited Editions are engineered using Bremont’s famous Trip-Tick case construction from polished stainless steel. The 200 metre water resistant cases measure to 42mm in diameter and come equipped with a scratch resistant DLC treated case barrel, a bi-directional rotating aluminium bezel in green or grey with tachymeter scale, screw down chronograph pushers and a matching screw down winding crown which has been engraved with the pattern of the period-correct Dunlop racing tyres fitted to the E-type.

Domed sapphire crystal glass protects the dial as well as the exhibition case back where you can see further reference to the Jaguar E-Type on the automatic winding rotor. The oscillating rotor has been purposely engineered into a miniaturisation of an alloy-spoked E-type steering wheel, forming part of the BE-50AE automatic winding movement. Thanks to the mechanical movement, both Bremont Jaguar E-Type 60th Anniversary watches provide central hands for hours, minutes and chronograph seconds, a small seconds counter at 9 o’clock, 30 minutes counter at 3 o’clock, a date window and a power reserve of 38 hours.

The Rally Timer

As mentioned, every sale of the Bremont Jaguar E-Type 60th Anniversary Limited Edition watch is delivered alongside a unique driving experience hosted by Jaguar Classic and Bremont’s first ever rally timer. The rally timer integrates two mechanical instruments that can be displayed on an elegant desktop stand or can be fitted into a customer’s car.

The left hand side of the rally timer is a stopwatch with tachymeter powered by the BE-35M manual wind stopwatch movement. At the 6 o’clock position, you can find the 30 second counter while at the centre, a red hand displays the chronograph seconds, and the white hand provides the split chronograph seconds. On the right hand side of the rally timer, you get a manual-wind clock powered by the BE-90M modified calibre. It delivers a classic watch face with central hands for hours and minutes, a small seconds dial at 6 o’clock and a rotating bezel.
