Raymond Weil Maestro Let It Be Limited Edition Watch Review

While the rest of the luxury watch industry fights between the worlds of aviation and motorsport, Raymond Weil remains comfortably at home within the arts. Since their founding in 1976, the Swiss watch manufacturer has been wholly influenced by the music industry, celebrating icons such as David Bowie, Bob Marley, AC/DC and Buddy Holly. One of their longest standing partnerships however is that of English rock band The Beatles and for 2021, they have launched their fourth limited edition Raymond Weil Beatles watch this time celebrating the band’s last studio album ‘Let it Be’. Meet the new Raymond Weil Maestro Let It Be Limited Edition…

We remember holding the original Raymond Weil Beatles watch back in 2016 during that year’s Baselworld event. It was a stunning stainless steel and silver-dialled Maestro model designed in celebration of Raymond Weil’s 40th anniversary. It brought to life the catchy tunes of ‘A Hard Days Night’ and ‘Yellow Submarine’ with a unique face adorned with the titles of all thirteen Beatles albums as well as a Help index at 4 o clock which remembered the cover of the iconic 1965 album. A year later and the Abbey Road album was celebrated with another 3,000 piece limited edition Maestro watch and then in 2019, Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album was tributed. With several albums still left to honour, Raymond Weil have released their fourth Beatles collaboration piece, this one celebrating the band’s twelfth and last studio album launched in 1970, “Let it Be”.

The Raymond Weil Maestro Let It Be Limited Edition is not only an important model for its exclusive collaboration, but it also marks the very first time a Raymond Weil Maestro limited edition model has been equipped with a intricate skeletonised movement. And yet in pure Raymond Weil fashion, the openwork dial does more than just expose the complex construction of the movement. It has been cleverly shaped so that the mainspring barrel, balance wheel, and segments of the gear train peek through a cut out shaped like the United Kingdom with the Beatle’s home county of Liverpool marked by the joining of the central hands.

The dial continues to celebrate the British rock band with a set of four stick indexes at the 4 o’clock position to mark each member of the bend: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. Meanwhile, at 9 o’clock, the Beatles logo perfectly balances out the matching silvered Raymond Weil logo on the opposite side. The dial itself is finished in a gorgeous grey-anthracite sunray finish and paired with rose gold hands for the hours, minutes and seconds to pair with the rose gold hour markers.

Peeking through the dial of the Raymond Weil Maestro Let It Be Limited Edition is the RW 4215 automatic winding calibre based on the trusty SW200. It’s extensive perlage decoration is visible both through the dial and the smoked case back, with the back further embellished by a white printed image of the Beatles logo. The Swiss made automatic winding movement delivers a healthy power reserve of 38 hours and beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour.

The Raymond Weil Maestro Beatles Let It Be watch sits on the wrist at 40 millimetres in diameter and 9.2 millimetres in height secured by a FSC-certified vegan nubuck strap and engineered from polished stainless steel. Raymond Weil have purposely designed the strap with a brown woolly texture to recall John Lennon’s coat from The Beatles’ last-ever live performance on the rooftop of Apple Corps in 1969. The rest of the design includes a smooth fixed bezel, sapphire crystal glass treated with anti-reflective coating and a knurled crown at 3 o’clock aiding a 50 metre water resistance.
