Oris Launches New Aquis Calibre 400 Bicolour Watches

Oris extends its popular Calibre 400 series with a new range of bi-colour Aquis watches boasting the illustrious 10-year warranty, 120-hour power reserve and high levels of anti-magnetism. The Oris Aquis Calibre 400 Bicolour watches are engineered from both stainless steel and 18ct gold and come dressed in a choice of blue or green dials and bezels.

The Oris Calibre 400 movement series has been the Swiss watch manufacturer’s greatest innovation of the last two years. First launched in 2020, the Calibre 400 movement debuted with a duo of 43.5mm Aquis watches offering the legendary divers aesthetic with ceramic bezels, 300 metre water resistant cases and a nautical blue dial. Over the last 24 months, we’ve seen the movement extend across the brand’s vast portfolio including within an Oris AquisPro watch and more recently a series of Oris ProPilot X watches. One of the best-selling designs however is the Oris Aquis Calibre 400 41.5mm which calls to those with a preference for smaller watches with its reduced case size. Now offering more metal options in this diameter is the new range of Oris Aquis Calibre 400 Bicolour watches dressed in stainless steel and 18ct gold.

The Calibre 400 Movement

Before we look at the new Oris Aquis Calibre 400 Bicolour watches in more detail, let us first remind ourselves why the in-house Calibre 400 movement is so impressive. For starters, the movement is self-sufficient for up to 120 hours, or five days, thanks to the use of two mainspring barrels and a rotor placed on a more low-friction slide bearing system that winds in only one direction. The calibre also uses silicon for its anchor and escape wheel, both of which are lubrication free, to allow for impressive levels of anti-magnetism.  While not officially certified by COSC, all Oris Calibre 400 watches are regulated to run between 3 to +5 seconds a day and offer a high frequency of 28,800vph. Lastly, the Calibre 400 movement comes with a whopping 10 year guarantee so if you were to buy one of the Oris Aquis Calibre 400 Bicolour watches today, you would have peace of mind until the year 2032.

The Oris Aquis Calibre 400 Bicolour Watches

There are four new Oris Aquis Calibre 400 Bicolour watches to choose from, all offering much of the same spec as last year’s 41.5mm series but with stunning accents of gold that really change up the aesthetic. The cases themselves are fully engineered from stainless steel and feature the familiar combination of brushed and polished finishing. On top, the unidirectional rotating bezel has 18ct gold on the outer edge and a ceramic insert in a choice of blue or green. The insert is also decorated with a gold coloured 60 minute scale and is ratcheted for easy manipulation while diving.

The cases of the Oris Aquis Calibre 400 Bicolour watches remain faithful to their dive-worthy predecessors with a screw down crown protected by screwed guards and a a screw down mineral glass exhibition case back ensuring a 300 metre water resistance. Domed sapphire crystal glass also safeguards durability and with its anti-reflective coating allows for easy legibility of the dial beneath. The Oris Aquis Calibre 400 Bicolour watches secure to the wrist by an integrated three-link stainless steel bracelet, or a blue or green rubber strap coloured to the same as its dial and bezel. Both straps opt for a folding clasp with divers’ extension and quick release levers for easy strap exchange.

To match with the inclusion of gold on the bezel, the dials of the Oris Aquis Calibre 400 Bicolour watches add golden accents on the applied indexes and hands. The lettering at 6 o’clock is also printed in a gold colour for a well-rounded finish. The rest of the display is as you’d expect it, offering Superluminova indexes and three hands, two sword-shaped hands for the hours and minutes and a lollipop hand for the seconds. We’re also treated to a black date window and a white printed minutes track.
