The hard-wearing Aikon Venturer watch is primed for international travel for the first time with the release of the new Maurice Lacroix Aikon Venturer GMT duo. Clothed in tasteful monochromatic dials, 43mm stainless steel cases and two integrated strap options, these formidable timepieces are made for those wanting to explore and conquer.
The Maurice Lacroix Aikon remains the backbone of the luxury Swiss watch manufacturer’s collections. It’s solid build and distinctive style was inspired by the original Maurice Lacroix Calypso from the 1990’s which with its sporty aesthetic and high precision quartz movement became pivotal to the brand’s early success. Then in 2017, the composition of the Calypso was reinterpreted for a modern day audience and launched as the Maurice Lacroix Aikon, first as a quartz model and then later as automatic. The design codes of the iconic Aikon remain the same as they did four years ago, endowed with integrated bracelets, six-claw bezels, and sapphire crystal glass. The new Maurice Lacroix Aikon Venturer GMT follows suit but for the first time with a second time zone complication.
CASE
As we said, the Maurice Lacroix Aikon Venturer GMT watches showcase all the collection’s family traits including the tonneau-shaped case, raised notched bezel and integrated strap. While it may look like a fairly bulky design on the images, the case actually sits really nicely on the wrist at a diameter of 43mm and a height of 12mm. The hallmark bezel is predominantly where its muscular personality derives from with the six arms, which are often left unadorned or decorated with a 60 minute diving scale, now feature a 24 hour scale to work alongside the GMT hand.
The bezel is engineered from a combination of stainless steel and black ceramic, with the six raised claws dressed in brushed stainless steel and black numerals and the recessed elements in black ceramic and treated with white Arabic numerals. On the right hand side of the case, a solid screw down crown and crown guard module assist in the 300 metre water resistance as does the screw down stainless steel case back which has been freshly decorated with a world map and the 24 time zones. Each Maurice Lacroix Aikon Venturer GMT watch is also equipped with scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective coating.
DIAL
The Maurice Lacroix Aikon Venturer GMT is available in a pair of dial colourways. The first model is paired with a sunburst black dial and a vivid red GMT hand while the second elects a silver off-white sunburst dial with a bright orange GMT hand. Both versions follow the familiar Aikon DNA with rounded diver indexes, an inverted triangle at 12 o’clock, sword-shaped hour and minute hands and a generous helping of glow in the dark lume.
MOVEMENT
Beating at the centre of the Maurice Lacroix Aikon Venturer GMT watch is the ML165 automatic winding movement based on the classic Sellita SW330. Alongside its central hands for hours, minutes and seconds, GMT hand and date window at 3 o’clock, the movement performs a power reserve of 42 hours, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and comes equipped with 26 jewels.
STRAP
Each Maurice Lacroix Aikon Venturer GMT watch is currently available on two strap options, the first a classic 5-link stainless steel bracelet and the second a black rubber strap.
