Louis Erard Excellence Régulateur Aventurine, Lapis Lazuli & Malachite Watches Review

Louis Erard have certainly upped their game with dial design this past year. We saw the Louis Erard Excellence Guilloché Main Limited Edition and its breathtaking hand guilloche dial, another remarkable Excellence Le Regulateur Limited Edition designed in collaboration with horological genius Vianney Halter and then the Émail Grand Feu Limited Edition with its handmade enamel dial. Now, the Louis Erard Excellence collection welcomes a trio of unique limited editions dressed in three unique gemstones. Meet the new Louis Erard Excellence Régulateur Aventurine, Lapis Lazuli and Malachite watches.

Louis Erard have always embodied a “less is more” philosophy, bringing together classical codes of Swiss watchmaking with subtle yet remarkable inflections. As part of the Geneva Watch Days 2021 event, Louis Erard cements this attitude once again with the release of the Louis Erard Excellence Régulateur Aventurine, Lapis Lazuli and Malachite watches. The trio deliver the brand’s classic regulator display set against a backdrop of three different fine stones and artisanal glass. The first is the Aventurine model which stands out significantly for its dark dial. Aventurine takes its name from the word “adventure” and was first created by Venetian glass-blowers in the 17th century. It delivers a black background with sparkling inclusions that resemble a clear night sky. Next is the Louis Erard Excellence Régulateur Lapis Lazuli watch which opts for a pure nautical blue finish with dotted silicate inclusions. Lastly, the Excellence Régulateur Malachite delivers a forest green hue painted by German artist Gerhard Richter.

Given their unique materials, no dial will be the same meaning each 99-piece limited edition will be completely bespoke to its wearer. The rest of the design, nevertheless, follows suit to the coveted Excellence Regulator display by Louis Erard with two snailed opaline counters merging together from top to bottom. The subsidiary dial at 12 o’clock presents Arabic numerals and a single hand for the hours while the bottom counter promises running seconds. At the centre, the large signature fir-tree shaped hand provides the minutes. Around the edge of each Louis Erard Excellence Régulateur Aventurine, Lapis Lazuli and Malachite watch is then a printed white scale detailed with Arabic numerals at every 10 second interval.

Powering the regulator set up is the élaboré grade Sellita SW266-1 automatic winding movement. It boasts 31 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and a power reserve of 38 hours all alongside the vertical layout of the hours, minutes and seconds. The Swiss made movement can also be admired through the sapphire crystal case back alongside the special open worked oscillating rotor complete with the Louis Erard symbol. The case back of each Louis Erard Excellence Régulateur Aventurine, Lapis Lazuli and Malachite watch also leaves room for the individual design’s limited edition status out of 99 pieces.

The designs sit on the wrist at 42 millimetre in diameter and 12.2 millimetres in height with a lug to lug distance of 49.6 millimetres. Each case is crafted from polished stainless steel with a water resistance of 50 metres and domed sapphire crystal glass treated with anti-reflective coating on both sides to protect the dial. The Louis Erard limited editions are then secured to the wrist by a selection of coloured straps, all engineered from calfskin nubuck leather and fitted with a polished pin buckle. The Louis Erard Excellence Régulateur Aventurine watch features a dark navy strap, the Lapis Lazuli reference comes with a matching royal blue band and the Malachite limited edition follows suit with a green leather strap.
