It was bound to happen. Hölstein-based watchmaker Oris has launched their cotton candy-coloured Sixty Five Dive watch with a more traditional looking case, swapping out bronze for classic stainless steel. Let us introduce you to the inevitably popular Oris Sixty Five Divers Cotton Candy Steel watches…
Colourful watch dials are a major trend in the world of horology right now, and one of the very first watch brands to step outside the box with pastel-coloured hues was Oris. The Oris Sixty Five Divers Bronze watches were launched during the midst of the pandemic, created in the hope of spreading some happiness and positivity around the world. They certainly did that, offering unique patina-pending bronze cases and bracelets and displays dressed in lipstick pink, sky blue and wild green. A year later, the designs swapped out the bronze bracelets for dial matching coloured perlon straps for a more relaxed look. Now another twelve months has passed and this time, Oris have thrown out the more unorthodox cases of bronze for timeless ones of stainless steel.
Since it’s the only change, let’s start with the case of the Oris Sixty Five Divers Cotton Candy Steel watches. One of the biggest draws of these colourful watches has always been the case size, offered at 38mm wide. This is a small but important reduction to the 40mm Divers Sixty Five watches previously available in the brand’s portfolio. The cases also weigh in at 12.99mm tall and come with a new stainless steel architecture that won’t change colour like the bronze cases before them. The stainless steel elects a combination of brushed and polished finishing, a 100 metre water resistant rating, screw in crown, screw down case back and sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment. The bezel is still done in relief, providing a 60 minute scale with unidirectional rotating functionality, but of course is now engineered from steel.
There are still three bright and brilliant dial colours available on the Oris Sixty Five Divers Cotton Candy Steel watch: lipstick pink, sky blue and wild green. Each playful shade pairs its new stainless steel case with matching silver coloured hardware for the hands and markers. All the characteristics of the retro diver’s watch are still present including vintage-inspired round markers, a shield-shaped, Oris logo-inspired 12 hour marker, sword-shaped hands for the hours and minutes and lollipop seconds hand. All of this hardware is generously adorned in glow in the dark Superluminova. The dials also present a date window at 6 o’clock and the Oris logo up above at 12.
Housed inside the Oris Sixty Five Divers Cotton Candy Steel watches is the familiar Oris 733 automatic winding movement. It powers the hours, minutes, seconds, and date functions and offers 26 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, and provides a healthy power reserve of 38 hours. Completing the Oris Sixty Five Divers Cotton Candy Steel watches is a choice of two straps: a classic three-row link stainless steel bracelet or a perlon strap coloured in the same lipstick pink, sky blue or wild green as the dial.
