Dressed in pastel pink, mint green and sky blue, last year’s Oris Divers Sixty Five Cotton Candy watches were a ray of light in the midst of a global pandemic. The series was launched in response to the world’s requisite for some hopefulness and optimism, and while the dreaded virus is less of a concern for many, these sentiments still feel warranted. With that in mind, the Swiss watch manufacturer launches a new set of colourful watches, this time offering a more relaxed aesthetic. Meet the new 2022 Oris Sixty Five Cotton Candy watches on perlon straps.
The past twelve months in particular has seen a dramatic increase in bright-coloured watch dials and Oris has certainly been one of the main contributors to this trend. We’ve seen Cherry Red Aquis watches, pink and navy ProPilot X watches and a rainbow array of Oris Rectangular watches. None has made quite as much impact as the Oris Sixty Five Cotton Candy collection however, which exploits an unprecedented combination of colours and materials for an appealing yet undeniably daring appearance. The dials, which comes in sky blue, wild green or lipstick pink, are then paired with a full bronze case which over time will change colour itself, naturally reacting to your skin and developing an ever-changing patina.
The cases of the new Oris Divers Sixty Five Cotton Candy watches now on perlon straps mimic those of last year exactly. They sit on the wrist at 38mm in diameter and feature bronze across the majority of its architecture including the unidirectional rotting bezel and screw in crown. The closed case back on the other hand is engineered from classic stainless steel to provide hypoallergenic properties. The bezel is complemented by a 60 minute divers scale in relief and a triangle marker at 12 o’clock equipped with a Superluminova dot. There’s also ultra-domed sapphire crystal glass for a nice retro touch complete with anti-reflective treatment and a 100 metre water resistant rating.
The dials also follow suit to last year, offering the same three colourways of lipstick pink, sky blue or wild green. Each is adorned with case-coordinating hardware with the applied markers and hands for the hours, minutes and seconds finished in bronze. All of these elements are finalised by glow in the dark Superluminova including the seconds hand which is topped by a generous lollipop tip. The dials of the Oris Divers Sixty Five Cotton Candy watches also present a square-shaped date window at 6 o’clock and a white printed minutes scale.
Powering the classic time and date display is the Sellita SW200 automatic movement otherwise renamed by Oris as their Calibre 733. It’s a movement we’ve seen many times before in their core collections promising 26 jewels, a frequency of 28,800vph and a 38 hour power reserve. It would have been nice to see their new in-house Calibre 400 movement debut in these watches for its extended power reserve and 10 year warranty, but we suppose this classic calibre does help keep the price point down nicely.
Finally, the real novelty of the new 2022 Oris Divers Sixty Five Cotton Candy watches is the addition of the perlon straps. This material feels significantly more suited to the summer months, especially when compared to the solid bronze bracelets of last year’s models. They are engineered from coloured and recycled perlon and close by a matching bronze pin buckle. The straps are coloured in their respective dial colour.
