Introducing the Louis Erard La Petite Seconde Violette, Bleu Glacier & Bleu Nuit

Louis Erard’s first release of last year was a beautiful, copper-coloured La Petite Seconde Terracotta watch which conformed to the Swiss brand’s discipline in creating beautiful yet affordable timepieces. The salmon model was preceded by a silver-coloured dial which again was executed with multiple levels and finishes to create a unique sense of depth. Now joining these is a trio of limited editions: the Louis Erard La Petite Seconde Violette, Bleu Glacier and Bleu Nuit watches.

Bold and bright dial colours are all the rage at the moment, and Louis Erard are no outsiders to the concept. Alongside the elegant terracotta display of last year, we’ve seen them combine their La Petite Seconde architecture with mesmerising stone dials of malachite, aventurine and lapis lazuli. Despite the complex construction of models like this, Louis Erard have mastered the art of keeping unconventional manufacture minamilistic and timeless. The new Louis Erard La Petite Seconde Violette, Bleu Glacier and Bleu Nuit watches are no different, certainly standing out with their brilliant colour, but remaining elegant, everyday dress watches in every other sense.

Whether Louis Erard planned it or not, one of the designs in the new limited edition trio is going to be a fan favourite purely for its ‘Tiffany blue’ dial colour. If you’re not already familiar with the trend of Tiffany-coloured watches, we recommend reading our article here. The shade of ice blue used on the Louis Erard La Petite Seconde Bleu Glacier watch is a close match to that used on the Patek Tiffany watch, and every watch that has come close in colour to it has sold out pretty quickly. The Louis Erard La Petite Seconde Bleu Glacier watch pairs its crisp blue display with dark blue polished hands and numerals and an ice blue grained calfskin leather strap with dark blue stitching on the attachment points.

The other two Louis Erard La Petite Seconde watches are equally as stunning. The Louis Erard La Petite Seconde Violette watch is a personal favourite of ours with a deep matte purple display and a matching purple grained calfskin leather strap. The Louis Erard La Petite Seconde Bleu Nuit follows suit with a matching strap and dial combo in a dark, night sky navy blue. All three dials mirror that of previous models in the collection with a raised satin-finished centre and a sunken brushed hours track. The small seconds dial at 6 o’clock is also slightly recessed, snailed and outlined in a silvered border. The signature fir tree hands for the hours and minutes are either rhodium plated or polished blue.

The stainless steel cases of the new Louis Erard La Petite Seconde Violette, Bleu Glacier and Bleu Nuit watches are familiar to last year’s designs. They sit much smaller on the wrist compared to the 42mm models in the brand’s collection, measuring to 39mm in diameter and 12.82mm high. They have the classic design tropes of round pocket watches with a single, knurled fir-tree crown at 3 o’clock, curved lugs and domed sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective treatment on both sides. The Louis Erard La Petite Seconde Violette, Bleu Glacier and Bleu Nuit watches are water resistant to 50 metres.

Turning the Louis Erard La Petite Seconde Violette, Bleu Glacier and Bleu Nuit watches over and you can admire the automatic winding movement through the exhibition case back. The movement in question is the Sellita SW261-1 calibre with hours, minutes and small seconds, 31 jewels, a frequency of 28,800vph and a power reserve of 38 hours. It’s an élaboré grade movement which means it has been adjusted in three positions and is traditionally decorated with the openworked oscillating weight set with the black lacquered Louis Erard symbol.

Louis Erard have suggested that the new Louis Erard La Petite Seconde Violette, Bleu Glacier and Bleu Nuit watches are part of a limited series which will see 100-150 pieces created each year.
