Introducing the Angelus Chronodate Red Gold & Titanium Watches for 2023

Angelus welcomes three new additions of their Chronodate watch for Watches & Wonders 2023. The series include a duo of lightweight titanium models with a black or fern green display and a single solid gold reference with a black dial. Let’s take a look at the new Angelus Chronodate Red Gold & Titanium watches for 2023…

The new trio of Angelus Chronodate watches are certainly not the first of their kind. The Swiss watchmaker originally launched their Chronodate watch collection last year, taking inspiration from their historic Chronodato watch launched in 1942. This design made history as the brand’s first ever wristwatch with a calendar and in turn became one of their best-selling timepieces, if not one of the best-known watches in Switzerland at the time. The modern-day line-up began with a pair of limited editions, a solid gold piece with a blue dial and a handsome titanium model with a white display. Now Angelus adds in some additional dial colours to the mix alongside a fabulous titanium bracelet to match their sporty aesthetic.

For the case of the new Angelus Chronodate watches for 2023, you can expect to find all the same specifications as last year’s duo. They opt for the same slightly aggressive, angular architecture in titanium or 18 carat red gold. The cases are composed of six components in total which includes two hollow sides, two central links, a bezel and a case back. It’s a complicated structure but one that definitely pays off. Inside the main 42.5mm case is a carbon composite container which helps protect the automatic winding chronograph movement inside. There’s also carbon composite chronograph pushers, a large crown with a rubber ring and sapphire crystal glass. The Angelus Chronodate Red Gold & Titanium watches also elect a bezel in their corresponding case material which is fixed and neatly ratcheted.

The first of two notable changes for the 2023 Angelus Chronodate watches is the dial colours. The titanium reference is presented with a display in jet black or fern green while the 18ct rose gold case is only available with a black dial. The dials maintain all the elements of last year’s models including frosted decoration at the centre, two large subsidiary dials for the running seconds and the chronograph 30-minute counter and a sloped minutes track with the trademark date ring on the perimeter. Those with a black dial adorn the subsidiary dials in the same shade while the fern green model stands out for its contrasting black counters. Finally, the large Arabic numerals and sword-shaped hands are generously adorned with white Superluminova and the central chronograph seconds hand and pointer date hand boast bright red tips.

Powering the new Angelus Chronodate Red Gold & Titanium watches is the Calibre A500 movement, made by Joux-Perret based on the architecture of the Valjoux 7750. It is automatic winding, running at a frequency of 28,800vph and offers 26 jewels and a healthy 60 hour power reserve. You can admire the movement through the case back of each watch protected by box-shaped sapphire crystal. Finishings include sandblasted and micro-beadblasted plates and bridges, circular-grained rhodium-plated wheels and an oscillating rotor in tungsten or rose gold.

Finally, the 2023 Angelus Chronodate watches – or rather just the titanium model – debuts a new integrated titanium bracelet. The bracelet has beautiful, large rectangular links that conform effortlessly to the skin closing by a classic titanium folding buckle. The titanium model is also available on a black textured rubber strap with a folding buckle, also available on the rose gold variant. Both the bracelet and rubber band are equipped with an interchangeability system so you can easily swap around the straps depending on your mood.
