First things first, let’s take a look at the external design. TAG Heuer are certainly no strangers to aesthetic brilliance and many of you will be pleased to hear that the design of the TAG Heuer Connected Golf Edition watch actually takes inspiration from the iconic Carrera series. The sleek angles of the case, faceted horns, sport-inspired crown all scream Carrera, engineered from ultra-light grade 2 titanium with a black sand-blasted coating. The crown at 3 o’clock, which can be used to access the many smartwatch features hiding within, is nicely decorated with a white TAG Heuer logo to pair with the white rubber strap. The strap is detailed with some bold green stitching, blending it perfectly with the golfing green but it can be swapped out for an additional black perforated rubber strap that comes included in the box.
Speaking of the box, just unboxing the TAG Heuer Connected Golf Edition watch is a luxury experience in itself. Inside, the smartwatch is delivered with the additional strap, three golfing balls, a travel pouch, four tees and a divot tool. Continuing with the rest of the design, the model comes equipped with a unique ceramic golf bezel detailed with an 18 increment scale so you can keep count of your progress through an 18 hole course. Beside the bezel is scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass which protects the touchscreen OLED 1.39 inch display. The display resolution is 454 x 454 pixels, or 326ppi.
Now let’s get into the golfing features. When you first receive your TAG Heuer Connected Golf Edition smartwatch, you’ll be asked to download the TAG Heuer Golf smartphone app which you can then easily connect to the watch. From the app, you have access more than 40,000 golf courses around the world and once on one of them, you simply tap and you’re ready to go. You’ll get a fantastic map of your course in detail, so much so that it can identity single trees in your way. You can then drag your finger around the map to explore. White lines appear across the map to indicate every five yards.
As well as maps, the TAG Heuer Connected Golf Edition delivers an innovative club recommendation tool based on which course you intend to visit. You can also initiate distance tracking of your shots via the menu and measure straight line distance between your tee and the ball. When you’re playing against others, you can keep track of scores within the app too. The watch will also help track the landing zone of previous tees so you can go back and analyse your play and adopt a better strategy for your next shot. During all this, the watch will also monitor your heart rate, steps, miles covered, calories burned and floors climbed.
