NOMOS Club Campus In Absolute Grey and Future Orange Review

If there’s one collection that embodies the unique design ethos and contemporary flair of NOMOS Glashutte it’s their Club Campus series. Described as an entrance model for those just getting into luxury watches, the NOMOS Club Campus boasts a range of minimalist, unassuming designs with high-end handmade calibres ticking within. For the first time however, as part of their Watches & Wonders 2021 releases, the Glashutte-based manufacturer has added a little extra oomph into the first-timers collection with two new dial colourways: “Absolute Grey” and “Future Orange”.

In fact, there are four new NOMOS Club Campus models available, two sizes and each dressed in one of the two new dial colours. The first duo is a pair of 38mm models rendered in Absolute Grey and Future Orange, while the second set measures to a slightly smaller 36mm and although comes dressed in the same base dial shades, offers some extra colouring around the numerals. Each of the freshly released dial colours are designed to reflect the different stages of a student’s journey through education. Absolute Grey embodies the difficult start of a student’s passage as they spend many testing months learning whilst the subtle purple and orange accents symbolise daybreak and the good things to come. The Future Orange references on the other hand represent these new beginnings, the hard work that has paid off and the brightness of their future. Marketed as a perfect graduation gift, the watches come with plain stainless steel case backs that can be engraved with a special message.

Both the 38mm and 36mm NOMOS Club Campus watches follow suit to each other in their case material, dial colours and movements and differ only in their size and slight variations in the colours surrounding the Arabic numerals. (The Absolute Grey 38mm reference has purple surrounds and light grey minute markers while the 36mm has orange accents). The only other difference is in the choice of straps. The 38mm Club Campus models come with an anthracite-coloured Velour leather strap while the 36mm references are delivered on light grey leather bands. All variants can also be ordered on two metal bracelet designs, one of these being the brand’s recently engineered “Sport” bracelet.

The 38mm NOMOS Club Campus watches measure to 8.5mm thick while the smaller 36mm variants come in at 8.2mm, both compact and slim enough for most average wrist sizes. The cases are crafted from stainless steel with smooth unadorned bezels, domed sapphire crystal glass and a single knurled crown at 3 o’clock, all characteristics of the Club Campus collection. Each design is also water resistant to 100 metres, so is suited for shallow swimming, and delivers effortless legibility in all lighting conditions thanks to Superluminova inlays on the hands and bilingual Arabic and Roman numerals.

The powerhouse of the new NOMOS Club Campus watches in Absolute Grey and Future Orange is the Alpha calibre. This manual winding movement is constructed entirely in-house by NOMOS in their Glashutte-based workshops and remains one of their most highly acclaimed movements to date. It was powered many of their collections including most of their Club Campus watches delivering classic central hands for hours and minutes, a small seconds dial at 6 o’clock and a power reserve of 43 hours. Sadly, we are unable to see it due to the closed case back, but NOMOS assures that the Alpha calibre is beautifully decorated in blue tempered screws, perlage and traditional Glashutte ribbing.

The new 36mm and 38mm NOMOS Club Campus watches are available to order now on the Jura Watches website alongside interest free finance and free delivery.
