Perrelet Turbine Rat Limited Edition Watch Review

What better way to kick off the new year than with an in-depth review of Perrelet’s newest luxury limited edition, the Perrelet Turbine Rat watch which beautifully celebrates 2020 and the Chinese Year of the Rat. Its legendary turbine dial instantly draws you in while the iconic red detailing has been chosen specifically to bring you good luck and happiness and ward off any evil for the entire year to come.

For keen followers of Perrelet, you will already know that the Perrelet Turbine Rat Limited Edition is not the first of its kind from the brand. Over the past few of years, we have had several other stunning editions released to honour the Chinese New Year celebrations including the Perrelet Rooster and the Perrelet Monkey. Each model has followed a similar design footprint perfectly showcasing the Swiss watch manufacturers creativity, technique and craftsmanship while ensuring each year’s Zodiac sign remains centre stage. Those lucky enough to be born under the sign of the Rat are believed to be natural leaders with high intelligence and a determined ambition and the Perrelet Turbine Rat watch perfectly epitomises this personality with an animated dial and an intricate, highly complex automatic movement.

The renowned Perrelet Turbine movement celebrated its 10th anniversary this last year and its breathtaking mechanism remains just as captivating as the day of its release. Protected by sapphire crystal glass, the black turbine blades act as a front-positioned oscillating weight that spin and wind up the automatic movement with every motion of the wrist. To captivate further, the anodized aluminium blades are engraved with the 12 animals of the Chinese horoscope along with their respective Chinese ideogram. Of course, the star of 2020 is highlighted on the blade at 3 o clock in a bright shade of red.

Exposed exquisitely beneath the turbines as they spin with your wrist’s movement, another remarkable tribute to the animal can be seen with a distinctive image of the rat painted on the dial. Above, the mechanical movement continues to provide technical excellence and unbeatable performance with a power reserve of 42 hours, a striking red central seconds hand and large black hour and minute hands. Four large Arabic numerals for 15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes are also laid out around the outskirts of the dial for easy legibility.

Like its predecessors before it, the Perrelet Turbine Rat Limited Edition watch continues to be showcased in a striking stainless steel case coated in black PVD. Measuring to 44mm in diameter, the timepiece is perfectly suited to most wrist sizes and provides a water resistance of 50 metres. The limited edition is completed by a classic crown decorated with the Perrelet ‘P’ and a sporty black rubber strap with a black PVD coated stainless steel buckle.

The Chinese Year of the Rat will begin on January 25, 2020 but the Perrelet Turbine Rat Limited Edition is already available here. Retailing at £4,100 and limited to only 100 pieces, the timepiece can be ordered at Jura Watches today with free delivery and interest free finance options available.
