Oris Dexter Gordon Limited Edition Watch Review

Oris Dexter Gordon Limited Edition Watch Review

This is not the first time that Oris have released a limited edition musically inspired timepiece but we expect the new Oris Dexter Gordon Limited Edition watch to be just as popular as the rest. The brand’s relationship with Jazz music has been an ongoing affair for many years now with previous editions being the Oris Thelonious Monk watch, Oris John Coltrane watch and the Oris Miles Davis watch making the new Dexter Gordon model their seventeenth jazz inspired piece.

For those who are not familiar with Dexter Gordon, he is considered one of the greatest 20th century Jazz musicians to have existed. He was born in 1923 in Los Angeles and was incredibly close to his father who became one of the very first African American physicians whose patients included renowned Jazz musicians Lionel Hampton and Duke Ellington. From a young age, Dexter Gordon quickly displayed musical talent and learnt the clarinet at 15 and then the saxophone at 17, an instrument that would later make him a legend.

Dexter Gordon is also considered one of the first jazz musicians to adapt to the music style known as “bebop” that was pioneered by fellow Jazz players Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie. Throughout his long and incredible career, Dexter Gordon recorded and performed with many iconic musicians and became himself an inspiration to those alike. As he got older he even tried his hand at acting and was even nominated for an Academy Award for his role in the 1986 film Round Midnight.

The new Oris Dexter Gordon Limited Edition watch does a fantastic job of celebrating the life of such a talented musician. The designers have included some exquisite subtle touches into the design of the watch to make it a true novelty such as the saxophone reed shaped indice at 12 o clock and the ‘Long Tall Dex’ reference engraved on the case back which recalls the jazz player’s nickname.

There are only going to be 1,000 pieces of the Oris Dexter Gordon Limited Edition manufactured and these are expected to be released in early February 2017. There is not currently a confirmed retail price for this model yet but watch this space…
