No matter where you look in TAG Heuer’s history, you’ll see examples of motorsport-inspired craftsmanship throughout. Some have even become the brand’s most collectable timepieces. TAG Heuer is synonymous with speed, time and precision and has left an indelible mark on the world of racing. Part of its heritage dates back to Jack Heuer’s vision for the brand. His passion for performance and precision laid the foundations for key collections like the TAG Heuer Carrera and Monaco, after all. In a sport that focuses on every tenth of a second – a watch that can break down these small parameters can make all the difference between a loss and a win.
TAG Heuer watches couldn’t be more prepared for the racetrack if they tried. The manufacturer produced the first dashboard chronograph back in 1911 and during the 1950s made a large shift towards making chronograph watches predominantly. In 1969, TAG Heuer began sponsoring Formula motor racing. Further down the line, Max Verstappen joined forces with the watchmaker at the age of 18 and began nurturing a special relationship both on and off the racetrack. This relationship went on to shape TAG Heuer’s partnership with Red Bull Racing, which formed back in 2016. What started as a small venture soon became one of the most influential and successful partnerships in the sporting world. Other feats within this realm of motorsport and timekeeping also include TAG Heuer lending its name to the McLaren engine.
The relationship that sparked between TAG Heuer and Red Bull has led to all sorts of special releases and limited editions, and the legacy continues with yet another release – this time, a smartwatch. The TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 45mm x Oracle Red Bull Racing Edition enables you as the wearer a chance to select one of four different watch faces. Let’s look at these in a little more detail to start with.
The Faces:
By choosing the “Seasons” face option, you get to enjoy, first hand, TAG Heuer’s penchant for creativity. Flags of the various competitors are featured around the bezel, highlighting the different countries that the team is competing against. On top of that, you get updates on the race results in real-time, including the positions of the team’s two drivers, Verstappen and Mexico’s Sergio Perez. The “Asphalt” screen, as its name would suggest, uses textures, backgrounds and patterns that evoke the race track itself. In the past, we have seen TAG Heuer use an asphalt effect in the sub-dials of its chronograph counters and on the main dials themselves. In the case of the TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 45mm x Oracle Red Bull Racing Edition, the emphasis on the track is also represented in the grain of the optional leather strap. In addition to that, you can also choose a fabric strap that is perfect for toning the watch down to a more casual level. The third watch face takes its design from the TAG Heuer Formula 1 X Red Bull Racing special edition, which launched back in 2022, with a striking chronograph dial. Finally, the fourth option is the RB20, which takes inspirational design cues from this year’s Formula 1 car design.
This new Connected smartwatch by TAG is close in design to the models of the original Connected Calibre E4 series. Let’s take a closer look…
The Case:
The watch features a ceramic bezel atop its black DLC-coating titanium case and measures a confident 45mm diameter. The crown and pushers on the case are, however, crafted from stainless steel and TAG Heuer experts give these a refined DLC finish which looks particularly stylish. The execution of the case keeps in line with the sleek and sporty look of the case. The top of the case is sealed with a piece of anti-reflective and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass that protects a bright and colourful touchscreen from damage. On the titanium caseback, you can find a PPG sensor, along with charging ports and the case promises a 50-meter water-resistant rating.
The Strap:
The new TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 45mm x Oracle Red Bull Racing Edition features a bi-material strap with a rubber internal structure while the outer structure of the strap is finished in a striking blue and red colour scheme, and is made from leather. To complete the comfortable design of the strap, TAG Heuer experts equip it with a titanium folding clasp that operates with a double-push release system. Like the case itself, the clasp, engraved with the TAG Heuer logo, is finished with a DLC coating to complete its sleek and modern aesthetic. If the blue and red strap is too sporty for your liking, however, there’s an additional black rubber strap to swap it with by using the quick-release system that features at the bottom of the strap, near the lugs.
The Features:
The multifunctional TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 45mm x Oracle Red Bull Racing Edition watch is equipped with several features that enable you to keep on track of your health and fitness, as well as your calls, messages and updates. The new TAG Heuer Connected watch for 2024 lasts an entire day, while the most appealing feature for motorsport fans is going to be the watch’s host of F1-specific faces and applications, as aforementioned.
