The giants of Japanese watch manufacture, Grand Seiko, had our heads spinning at Baselworld 2019. They came out with some incredible new releases that we couldn’t keep quiet for any longer. Grand Seiko Elegance Snowflake Platinum Watches SBGZ003J and SBGZ001J
Grand Seiko have released these two stunning new watches to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their famous Spring Drive movement. Both crafted from platinum and boasting a manual winding movement, the Grand Seiko Elegance Platinum Watches SBGZ003J and SBGZ001J are the epitome of Japanese manufacture. The 9R02 movement comes with 39 jewels, an accuracy of +/- 15 seconds per month and a power reserve of 84 hours.
Both Grand Seiko Elegance Platinum watches also feature a stunning power reserve indicator which is visible through the sapphire crystal case back. Next door to the indicator is the barrel which has been shaped liked that of a bellflower, the symbol of Shiojiri where the Grand Seiko studio is located. The main difference between the models is that the SBGZ001J is a limited edition of only 30 pieces and comes with a fantastic hand carved case to pair with a famous Grand Seiko Snowflake dial.

Grand Seiko Watch Sport Spring Drive GMT Watches SBGC230G and SBGC231G
Another duo released to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Grand Seiko Spring Drive movement is these two Sport Spring Drive GMT SBGC230G and SBGC231G watches. The bold and masculine aesthetic of these two stunning pieces have drawn their inspiration from the Grand Seiko lion, the famous and powerful logo of the brand. Both variations are powered by the 9R96 Spring Drive calibre which powers the 24 hour GMT hand, calendar-linked time difference adjustment function and 30 minutes and 12 hour chronograph counters
The SBGC230G model is crafted from exquisite 18 carat rose gold and comes paired with a striking red alligator leather strap. The SBGC231G on the other hand is dressed in lightweight and high intensity titanium and fitted with a matching titanium bracelet polished using the brand’s famous Zaratsu technique. Both Grand Seiko Watch Sport Spring Drive GMT watches are limited editions as well, the rose gold being limited to 100 pieces and the titanium limited to 500.

Grand Seiko Ladies Elegance Watches STGK003J, STGK004J, STGK006J, STGK007G and STGK009G
Something all female watch collectors have been waiting for, Grand Seiko have finally released another stunning collection of ladies’ watches. Last year was the first time the brand introduced the 9S25, a movement designed especially for their women’s watches. For this year, they have released yet another new calibre, the 9S27, to go alongside 5 new Grand Seiko Ladies Elegance watches. This new movement provides an accuracy of +8 to −3 seconds a day and a power reserve of 50 hours. They have kept the movement slim so that each 28.7mm case sits unassuming on the wrist.
There are two stainless steel models (STGK007G and STGK009G) and three 18 carat gold. The gold cases come in rose gold (STGK006J), yellow gold (STGK004J) and white gold (STGK003). The two steel versions come with either a crisp silver dial decorated with diamond dot indices or a mesmerising mother of pearl face with sleek metal indices. All gold variations come with incredible diamond coated bezels, mother of pearl dials and diamond dot indices.

Grand Seiko Elegance Urushi Dial Limited Edition Watches SBGK004G and SBGK002G
To celebrate the release of their brand new 9S63 calibre, Grand Seiko have released these two stunning Urushi Dial Limited Edition watches. This movement is the first new manual winding calibre to be added to the Grand Seiko family of movements for 8 years. It offers a small seconds hand at 9 o clock, a power reserve indicator at 3 o clock, an accuracy of +5 to -3 seconds a day and an impressive power reserve of 72 hours.
Each of these Grand Seiko Elegance Urushi Dial Limited Edition watches also come with breathtaking new Urushi lacquer dials, one in a dark amber colour and another in jet black. The Urushi lacquer comes from the trees surrounding the town of Joboji, a village which lies under Mt. Iwate just like that of the Shizukuishi Watch Studio where all Grand Seiko watches are born. Both models measure to 39mm in size, come crafted from exquisite 18 carat rose gold and are limited to 150 pieces each.
